  1. If you're successful in show business, it's not that big a surprise if you also become insanely wealthy.
  2. I think that is starting to change. For a lot of new releases, the difference is almost minimal - for example for the new Sherlock Holmes movie it's only a $2 difference - and the blu-ray set comes with a DVD in addition to the blu-ray - sounds like a good deal to me.
  3. Alida Valli was in The Paradine Case with Charles Laughton

Yes, TCM only once in a while gets a Paramount movie with Lake - The Blue Dahlia, most often. Slattery's Hurricane is a great film, got to watch that at the latest Noir City festival.

  6. Sometimes you feel like you could use a good laugh. Sometimes you know you need a good laugh. Monday evening is going to be a great time to have a good laugh while watching TCM, thanks to its prime time salute to the Marx Bros. - six of their best movies, and you don't even have to wait for the usual New Year's Eve marathon! Anyone else looking forward to this great tribute Monday night?
  7. Quincy - Luis Guzman in The Salton Sea
  8. Marlene Dietrich was in Touch of Evil with Orson Welles

  10. I don't think I'd heard of that "Third Hand" hamradio... interesting!

To my amazement, the armature technology has not changed even the slightess since the making of the original 1933 "King Kong" > That's a great photo! And I'm not too surprised that the basic technology hasn't changed all that much. One of the things that has changed, however, is that now directors have the ability to make 3-D stop-motion animation. It wasn't done that way for Nightmare, which was filmed in 2-D and only converted to 3-D years later; however Henry Selick's Coraline was filmed with special cameras and was 3-D from the start.

Not since I've been watching - but I certainly haven't been watching for the last 15 years. Maybe someone else can know for sure? If I could ask for any star to be SOTM, I'd probably go with Veronica Lake or Ann Sheridan.
  13. wouldbestar, I'm glad you enjoyed it - this is one of Capra's best, imho, and sadly not yet available on DVD here in America (they did release it in the UK, though).

I wonder if gagman66 knows more about this... he knows a lot about silents!
  15. > {quote:title=JarrodMcDonald wrote:}{quote} > They can't do the schedules a whole year in advance, because they are probably negotiating license agreements with Fox and Paramount on an on-going basis. However, the films they have in their library, like SOME LIKE IT HOT, well then can go ahead and pencil those in each month (and they do!). I don't think TCM has a library of its own anymore, from what I've read they now have to license the movies that used to be in the Turner Library, just like any other movie. It's true that the movies in the Warner library are somewhat easier for TCM to access and program, though.
