I don't really know anything about Marcos, but we've got a good thread going here, I think, and every time you add a few more photos, it just keeps getting BETTER and BETTER. Of this batch, I'm particularly fond of the photos of Veronica Lake, Eleanor Parker and Miriam Hopkins - but they're all love goddesses, without a question!

I think if I'd been in her place, I'd have chosen Ameche over Power, easily, but maybe at the time it was just considered that it was Power who was more of a matinee idol kind of actor. In any event, it's been ages since I've watched Alexander's Ragtime Band, but I wouldn't mind watching it again one of these days. P.S. If anyone's interested, FMC is showing Moon Over Miami today at 7:30am ET.

I think he was a great supporting actor, too easily taken for granted or overlooked. And yes he was good in Crimes and Misdemeanors, although I think personally that it was Martin Landau that really stole the picture - but that's just a matter of opinion.

> {quote:title=ChipHeartsMovies wrote:}{quote} > Let me second (third?) the statement that all of the Challenges have been well-run. Chip, I didn't intend anything beyond a very simple, well-intentioned acknowledgment about the great job you did with this challenge, because it's the only one I've followed. It's a bit sad that some people seek to find offense even in the most innocuous of statements. I have no reason to think that other people didn't do a good job, and I'm also certain that CineMaven will do a great job with the next one. But in the excitement about the upcoming Challenge #14, I didn't want to lose sight of the fact that you did a terrific job with this one, just like Lynn said, in spite of all kinds of forum malfunctioning. That is not to say anything bad about anybody else, it is saying a good thing about you. If anybody finds offense in something that is completely well-intentioned, then that just makes it seem that people can't say a nice thing about someone here without someone trying to make it look like a slight against somebody else - which is of course the last thing anyone intends when congratulating people who've just done an amazing job and deserve to be congratulated.

I'm already looking forward to the _next_ challenge, but I wanted to make sure to congratulate Chip for the good job he did with _this_ one.

who else does not care to see newer movies on TCM?

I think click-ons are about to become awesome popular around here...

Finally got a chance to see Ministry of Fear, the Fritz Lang film starring Ray Milland and Marjorie Reynolds, and found it to be quite exciting - maybe not top-notch Lang, but still pretty darn good. Actually, I can't imagine how thrilling this must have seemed when watched during its initial release, before the end of WW2. There must have been justifiable fear about any possible espionage attempts by the Nazis, and this movie, based on a Grahame Greene novel, makes the most out of them. An added delight was watching Dan Duryea in a relatively small part, but speaking with a fairly convincing British accent. Guess Lang had a knack for getting American actors to play British characters - he'd done the same thing with Joan Bennett in Man Hunt just a few years earlier. It's too bad this Paramount title, released on VHS by Universal Home Video, has never been available on DVD.

Special Sales of Classic Titles on DVD & Blu-ray

> {quote:title=Classic_MovieGuy wrote:}{quote} > Thank you! Yes, we do get TCM but it's only something like four or five movies per day which are rotated. We're getting cable TV connected this week actually, but my movie collection (which is well over 1000 titles) is still going to be my number one priority. I've had my own private TCM channel for many years now! Sounds like you're not doing too bad, huh? And for anyone out there keeping an eye out on U.S. special sales, bear in mind that one of the Gold Box "Lightning Deal" specials this Sunday is going to be for some as yet unspecified set of classic movies. The only hint is: "Go ape with these classic movies," which I think is a pretty obvious one. -
Thanks to all who posted here on Ben's birthday, I wish the TCM forums would show this kind of enthusiasm for all of the stars on their birthdays, but that it happens at least once in a while is still great.

Another great set of photos, Armand. Of these, I particularly like Marlene, Gina and Maria - but they're all absolutely gorgeous. :x

Two from Akira Kurosawa 2/24
HollywoodGolightly replied to Film_Fatale's topic in Films and Filmmakers
*I was lucky enough to see TSS in a theater first viewing and loved it. I've tried watching it on TV more than once and cannot get past the first half hour.* I'm not 100% but I think that I first watched it in a theater, too. I could be wrong about that. In any event, I do think some of Kurosawa's movies really require you to be in the right mood - preferably a very contemplative one. But whenever I can connect, they are so awesome. Of course, the more action-oriented ones, like Yojimbo and Sanjuro, you can probably enjoy any time. Even Rashomon is fairly easy to take, I think. -

SEPTEMBER SCHEDULE IS UP!!!!!

Some folks seems a bit grumpy tonight, so I'll just chill. > I agree with you about rare movies on TCM!!! I love them and can't wait to see them!!! Well I certainly don't feel grumpy... the night air is nice and cool, and I'm catching up with some movies (with some visits to the forum in-between). Whenever it comes to the TCM schedule, generally speaking, I don't want to be an apologist, but I do try to look on the bright side. And months that have relatively few movies that I would consider worth recording are sometimes nice for a break - at the same time, I understand not everyone necessarily feels the same way. More likely than not, TCM's budget for leasing movies will be increased once the economy gets better. We _must_ remain optimistic about the future, things will get better! -
