I do hope everyone's watching and enjoying this great William Wyler movie. As RO pointed out during the intro, it's amazing when you think that the whole tropical environment was so well recreated at the WB soundstages. Up until I heard RO speak those words, I'd never even questioned in my mind whether the movie was made on location or on a soundstage. That's how compelling the illusion is that Wyler and Davis created.
  2. Well, it's certainly a valid point. Hawks and Wise were at least as versatile, if not more, than Wyler. And speaking of Wyler, did everyone catch the "Essentials" intro to The Letter ? It is interesting that even though it is being presented as part of the William Wyler tribute, Robert and Alec spoke exclusively about the great Bette Davis. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course - although I certainly think that being directed by Wyler helped her give such a great performance.
  3. > {quote:title=Edgecliff wrote:}{quote} > I sometimes wonder if it is necessary to copy and paste the whole press release which takes up so much room on the thread. Personally I don't think it's really necessary. The title and release date are enough for me; I can even do without the bonus features and SRP.
  4. *The Company of Heroes has at least three longer anecdotes about Ben Johnson. It was a great read, and is well worth getting if you are interested in Ford, Johnson, Carey, or westerns.* I am definitely interested in Ford, Johnson and Carey; "The Company of Heroes" sounds like a must-read for me.
  5. The Elephant Man - a human being next: Blue Velvet
  6. Night Must Fall - suspicion live-in companion next: Jewel Robbery
  7. Helen Hayes was in The White Sister (1933) with Lewis Stone

  9. It is very considerate of you to post a link to that discussion, for all those who may be interested in a continuing discussion of Sudden Fear. And we should definitely look forward to GG in Human Desire tomorrow as part of Fritz Lang day!

I think he might be even better looking without his trademark mustache, but what do I know? I'm used to seeing him with the mustache, too, but the clean-shaven look is actually quite becoming, as well. Same with Flynn or Ameche. But someone like Clark Gable, I think looks better w/ mustache.
  11. Makes you wonder what they did with that torn tentacle...
  12. Chip, Thanks for extending the voting deadline - I'm sure this'll make voting a lot easier for many of us.

  14. I recorded These Three and hope to watch it tonight or tomorrow night. I have been waiting for a long time to watch this!
  15. I think it works pretty nicely with blu-ray, due to the higher resolution.
  16. Hi missgroove, welcome to the forums I think you're talking about a short film starring Edward Arnold called Inflation, where he plays the devil: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0134744/ http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title.jsp?stid=400967
  17. Love the artwork in the Dead End poster, it's very unique. And the one for The Letter is simply divine, love the way it makes Bette look... may be the best poster I have yet seen for a Davis movie.
