I think most of them have been shown over the last year or so. I'm hoping to watch them, eventually, but I didn't record them because most of them are already on DVD.

    > Why is it "discrimination?" It's just cheapness. Warner's -- and MGM, too -- aren't even bothering to put chapter menus on their basic discs any more. Or is that discrimination against those few people left in our society who know how to read?

Well, the OP referred to it as such but I wasn't looking to get into a discussion of whether it is or not. I honestly don't know if that is covered by ADA or whether there's any chance a class action lawsuit would succeed.

However, I am pretty sure that, even if it isn't legally considered discriminatory, it's just a bad business decision on the part of WHV. Especially since most of those movies have already been closed-captioned for broadcast or VHS release.

    > i myself might be just nutty enough to get 'the strawberry blonde' dvd for rita hayworth alone.... but still that will be later this year, i'm in no great rush.

I'm sure if you wait, the price is bound to drop. It won't stay that high indefinitely.

  6. I just posted this on the Westerns forum, and wasn't sure if the forum was going to let me post it here, as well...

Warner Home Video has just announced it will release a fully restored version of John Ford's Wagon Master on DVD on Sept. 15. It will include an audio commentary by Harry Carey, Jr. and Peter Bogdanovich _with_ John Ford!

The SRP is $19.97, so I'm sure most online retailers will have it on sale for about $15.

They're also releasing a double feature DVD with both versions of The Getaway (1972/1994) on 9/15, the SRP is around $15.

    > To HollyG, how did you happen to get this already

It was part of a press release issued by TCM, which included a little bit of information about all the special events planned for this year (because it is the 15th anniversary of TCM).

    Jane Randolph, 1915-2009

Sorry, don't mean to interrupt the conversation but before I forget, I wanted to take a moment to honor the memory of Jane Randolph, who passed away earlier this month. She was great in quite a few noirs.... may she rest in peace.
