Hi clore! Hope you're having an easier time accessing the boards.
The print of On the Old Spanish Trail was pretty bad, but nowhere near as bad, imho, as the print of Rough Riders' Roundup shown earlier.
Anyway, the Randolph Scott westerns coming up in the afternoon ought to be fun, too. Hope you'll enjoy those, if you're planning to watch them.

Monday night's bill was indeed, something quite unique, and I think the audience reaction totally confirmed it. (Their reaction to the mere mention of Edward Dmytryk was very interesting, as well).
I couldn't help but notice, at the end of Women in the Night, that the whole movie was filmed in Ensenada, Mexico, and that Eugene Shufftan shared the cinematography credit with Mexican cinematographer Jos? Ortiz Ramos. I wonder if it is safe to assume that with this being an American production, Shufftan would have photographed most of the movie.
All in all, it was a great double bill, and the audience _definitely_ had a great time.
P.S. Regarding The Pretender, I believe that's the first noir John Alton shot. Should be exciting!

I've been attending a 2-week noir festival at the Roxie theater (programmed by Dewey) and the idea of noir in anything but Academy Ratio seems a bit bizarre right now. (With the exception of the brilliant The Burglar, but even that one was 1.85:1 only).
I have just finished recording Cry of the City on FMC - it's a good thing I was watching it as it recorded because I realized just in time that this was a 95-minute movie in a 90-minute time slot, so I changed the settings to make sure I recorded all of it.

Dewey, I think you look just fine without a trenchcoat and a fedora. And I agree with CineMaven - I can't think of anyone who knows more about obscure B noirs than you. Watching you introduce a B noir at the Roxie is _always_ a pleasure.
