I saw this movie in the early-to-mid 1980's, or possibly in the very late 1970's. I remember very little about it, but maybe someone here will recognize it from the scant details. It featured Native Americans, and in one part (which may be the central plot to the movie, or may be a small part of it), a boy goes on some sort of spiritual journey. I thought it was a vision quest, but I'm not sure. I remember that he was to adopt the name of the first animal he saw, and that would be his own name. For example, if he saw an eagle was sitting on a branch, he would be named Sitting Eagle.
The only other thing I remember (and I remember this part pretty clearly), is that a member of the tribe died and they put him on a funeral pyre.
I wish I remembered more, but I was just a kid.
