Great article.
I was recently in a video store looking for films, I had asked the clerk to help me find a title in particular. When we found it they had both the "Widescreen" and the "Full Screen" version there. She made it a point to suggest that I get the full-screen. I could not resist quoting the fantastic little spot TCM runs about letterboxing, and pointed out that I didn't want some technician in a post house re-editing the movie. I said, "You realize if you watch Ben-Hur you'll only see two horses in the chariot races?" I got a blank stare. It was just one more reminder to me that although TCM shows older films, they are really leading the way in showing films the way they were meant to be seen.
Keep up the great work!!!

Hmmm. Not sure I agree. I don't care for all the silent films and imports on Sunday night, but they are a valuable part of film. I'll happily be disinterested by 5 to find 1 jewel in the rough.
Re: shutting down or stop the repeats. I recently have been forced to watch only films on my DVR. Most are from TCM. I am continuously struck by how re-watchable they are. If TCM were not here to give us these classics in their original form, I think you'd find that there's really no substitute for quality.
Re: the guest programmers. I do think that the guests feel a certain need to demonstrate their film knowledge by picking obscure films, but at the same time - that's the point. TCM is capable of scheduling films without the need of guests, but like any art - film has an aesthetic, and that aesthetic is different for everyone. What I'm looking for is a greater perspective on all film. And I don't find all films entertaining, but there is almost always something to be gleaned from any film.
As Machiavelli said, "One must stand in the valleys to see the hills, and stand on the hills to see the valleys."

The very definition of a leading lady. Beautiful, Intelligent, Commanding performances. "Roman Holiday" has been copied much but never duplicated. A bright star gone too soon.

Another great comedian and talent gone. As so many comedic/slapstick actors, seems to me he never really got the respect that kind of work deserves. Great to see a little bit of homage here amongst classic fans.
Rest in Peace Dom, and know that your films will live on.

Oooooh I hate it when I can't remember the name of a great movie, which I can't here.
But - I can say that this one IS on TCM, with the ending where the director asks not to reveal the ending. Not only that but TCM has also played the trailer for it where they also ask folks not to reveal the ending after seeing it. I am drawing a complete blank right now because I was just reading the Double Indemnity thread and that keeps popping into my head but that's not it.
I'm new to this site (although I've been an avid TCM fan for years) there may be a way to find it here. Not sure if you can search for the trailers they play in between the features, but that might be a short list for you to look for.
Good luck, and if I think of it, I'll happily get an answer up here.

Movies cut short

I too have many films cut off. I may be completely off track, but is it possible this is done to avoid pirating? If so, its clearly a very invasive way to do so.
TCM is the greatest thing since sliced bread and night baseball, but boy I sure would love them to fix this. I just re-watched the William Wellman: Men Who Made the Movies, then the next event on DVR as well. It was in the beginning of the next event that I saw the end of Wellman with his great lines about wives and mistresses being the #1 show killer in Hollywood. I would have really regretted not seeing that line - adds such character to him.
Anyways, I refuse to complain too much. Small inconvenience to have to set the DVR to run long in exchange for the great programming, mini clips, and Robert Osborne.
