By the way, in case you missed it, I am *very* fond of foreign films and silent films.
This being said, thanks for your support about my (the overwhelming majority) position on the schedule missmanagement, which effectively fouls up one's effective planning of movie viewing.
Just keep in mind that the scheduling and the films which are enjoyed (here we obviously disagree) are two separate issues.

Not to worry. This is Ms. Hatter at work--to perfection.
The worst that can happen is that you will miss it--if, of course, it is shown as some suggest that it will be. Wouldn't life at TCM be dull indeed if everything were as promised/advertised? You need not worry about *this* any more, nor need you believe that there is *anyone* in authority at TCM who can explain to you why July now has only thirty days.
Good luck in your search!

Haven't you heard?
TCM, in its infinite "wisdom," has waved its Wonderful wand and closed out the month of July with thirty days, instead of the generally recognized calendar of thirty-one days for July. Chalk one up to Ms. Hatter!

WISDOM?
This word is hardly applicable to the TCM individual who is responsible for this situation is thumbing her nose at all of us. The single most descriptive word is ARROGANCE.

You are correct in every detail of your criticism. The reduced printing margins, the smaller type, the gross waste of paper space (is TCM in cahoots with the paper industry?) all seem to point to a stubborn TCM irresponsibility that just wants to assert that it has the ability to do all of this with no logical reason whatsoever. There is nothing to recommend these changes in the schedule format. NOTHING.

Starting the day at 6am (or sometimes 5am) has long been a standard of the industry.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is not only irrelevant but also nonsensical.
TCM operates around the clock, and we are talking about a schedule listing which *MUST* reflect this fact.
No ifs, ands, or buts.
This is of course what we must expect when we live here in Wonderland, where things are never what they seem to be--a perfect example of the mentality which pervades this fantasyland. I cannot believe that TCM is seriously leaving the date and day of the week screwed up in the schedule for the reason stated. Perhaps the person responsible for this should show up here in this forum and explain it to us.
That'll be the day (or night, of course, with no timeout between midnight and 6:00 AM).

Despite your word "only," this does not finish the job of screwed-up schedule listings. There is still the problem of incorrect day of the month listings for the schedules in the various time zones. As I have said here before, the first item listing (in a monthly schedule in some specific time zone) for a new day of the month must be the *first movie that is scheduled after 12:00 AM.* It simply will not do for a movie starting at 2:00 AM, for example, to show up before the date change appears in the schedule listing.
This is a simple concept, but the people who are supposed to get this mess straightened out do not seem to have any intention of fixing this error. I should point out that this glaring error occurred before the trashing of the older method of schedule listings.
When TCM fixes *this* problem (instead of running and hiding from it) I will shut up about this business--and not before, unless of course the TCM censor comes along and deletes my post, for fear that I am calling attention to an inexcusable listing error.

Hopefully Ben will read your post, jump into his Nepotismobile (perhaps visiting his buddies in Hollywood on the way) and amble over to the studio to study up on Who's Who, What, and Where before uttering one one more word in Public.

Has it escaped everyone who is posting here that the full month schedules, whose URLs have not changed and have already been published some time ago, NOW mysteriously (without any announcement) contain brief one-line descriptions of each movie?
Let me repeat, for those of you who are asleep at the switch: EACH ITEM IN THE LIST *NOW* CONTAINS A VERY BRIEF DESCRIPTION!

Fortunately I happen to be living in Wonderland. Here, I can stay up all night watching classic movies which I would have to record (check it out) for more convenient viewing at a later time, if I were living in the world of reality.

Would you settle for North By Northwest instead? This is a real rarity around here and I suggest it as a substitute.

"This film is controversial stuff and I do expect follow up discussion from the community."
I don't know about a follow up discussion from the community, Thelma, but one thing that we are surely *not* going to get is a discussion of the web site foul-up by the TCM employee who is responsible!

You mean like Le Schpoutz, starring Fernandel?
Fernandel is the French version of the American old-style comic Joe. E. Brown. These are surely the biggest mouths ever on screen. I wonder which one has the bigger mouth. Surely Joe E. Brown can let out a bigger scream--incomparable!
The plot plays second fiddle to The Mouth.

Designers?
You are perverting the meaning of design.
This word is not in the vocabulary of those who viciously trashed the TCM website. Trashing was the only design involved here, not anything like thinking, which is what one normally associates with the word "design."

Forget about trouble with your DVR.
What you really have to be concerned about is a famous star dying, followed by a day-lon TCM tribute which wipes out the scheduled movies that you have been dying (pardon the expression) to see, and no doubt replacing these rarities by movies which have been repeated and repeated and repeated within a relatively short period of time.
Fallen stars are dropping like flies around here, so you never know what movies are going to be shown when, even if you have been able to find a schedule before the tribute to the fallen star. This is no easy chore.

There probably isn't any reason, being that everything that happens at TCM appears to be completely random. But to get to the nitty gritty: why should anyone be concerned about Maltin's ratings?

Well then, to get right to the point; who *is* the spokesperson for corporate TCM? There *must* be accountability if TCM's operation is to have any credibility. To repeat, someone was responsible for contracting the software elsewhere, if that is what was done. This individual *must* be outed. Period. Not very long ago, TCM used was respected as the role model for televised movies. Now, practically overnight, it is the laughing stock of the TV movie world. This is quite a plunge into the dark depths, isn't it?
The spokesperson for corporate TCM should certainly be willing to stand up and defend the changes to this website. It is not acceptable to make excuses for this monstrosity by claiming that the software was developed outside this company. Whether or not the software development is done by TCM is *IRRELEVANT*.
When excuses of this sort are offered in the Real world, they are shot down within a few microseconds. When they are offered here in Wonderland, the octupus gets covered up as its tentacles are pointed in all directions at once, creating continuous confusion and obfuscation.
And we are now being asked to put up with this nonsense for months and months and months into the future?

Yes, this is a *HUGE* problem; this is not the accepted result of clicking on a PRINT icon for text being displayed upon the screen! The fact that it is happening illustrates the total incompetence of the someone who is creating the schedule which we need to organize our movie viewing. Clicking on this icon is *supposed to* reformat the schedule so that it is suitable for printing. Period.
When this click instead brings up THIS MONTH ON TCM, a replica of the information in the Now Playing Guide, this Wondrous result is unacceptable. Someone should inform someone about the purpose of this PRINT icon.
Do you get the point? All of these anonymous "someones" hanging out here when they should be out on the beach doing what they know how to do (I assume)?

In a properly run and managed operation, there would be no need to impose on RO, assuming that his job description is to introduce and explain the movies and to chat with various people about what they do, like about the films and the company at which they work, etc., etc. He is very good at this sort of thing, is well appreciated by everyone, and has been doing this sort of thing here for a very long time.
The serious problem currently is that this is *NOT* a properly run and managed operation, as is evidenced by the mess that has been made by *someone* who has yet to be identified in an open forum. In contrast RO is well known by name and, rightly or wrongly, is regarded as a legitimate point of contact for those who have been alienated by this absolute trashing of the TCM web site. This has been done by an individual who insists upon hiding from her/his responsibilities to those who are being paid by US. The excuse for wanting to hide is of course privacy and the desire to avoid being made uncomfortable by embarrassing and pointed questions. Just like any politician. Are TCM employees entitled to "political cover"? The answer is a big fat *NO*.
TCM management cannot have it both ways. If it wishes to keep sheltering the individual that is guilty of this abomination, then it should expect that RO, our only visible point of contact, will have to accept some responsibility for helping to straighten out the chaotic, inexplicable dereliction of duty on the part of TCM management.
Do you understand what I am saying? If not, feel free to ask me questions. I happen to have many years of experience in technical management in a very large company and know what I am talking about. I have NEVER seen anything as screwed up as what TCM has done in permitting this intolerable situation to exist. NEVER! I would be glad for TCM to explain why it has done what it has done right here in this forum; I will be expecting them to come knocking at my door :-) :-). Until the cows come home.

Then *someone* ought to be fired--and quickly.
After all, these incompetents who have trashed this website are not protected by bureaucratic civil service laws! Who on earth (oops, I take that back--this is Wonderland) is running this show?
And RO is sitting this thing out on the sidelines?
*INCREDIBLE!*
