  1. What I think happens is that the entire film is widescreen, but is cropped/converted before showing. The broadcaster still shows widescreen for the beginning credits and ending credits. Most likely, this has to do with the Hollywood union contracts, which are preserved in the broadcast license agreements. It would be a tragedy if the entire name for the assistant location scout or the production caterer would be cut off during the pan-and-scan transformation process.
