This I Believe: I cannot find one bad movie these studios made in the 50's. Every single film they created are solid entertainment, great production values and the kind of actors and actresses that will never come our way again. Thanks so much to TCM...the world's greatest television.

Do not miss it, even if you have seen it. I'm thinking this is one of the greatest films ever realized Usually I can't tolerate subtitled films, but this is so good, you won't mind the irritation. An example of a movie that couldn't be a remake.

I am on a MISSION and have informed at least 2,600 film lovers personally to not miss this masterpiece; I feel it is one of the best 10 films ever. If you have not seen it, you must.

Anyone notice? She wore the same dress in the party scene in "The Fountainhead" as she did in the cameo in "It's a Great Feeling" shown back-to-back this morning...black with white fur(?) along the bodice. Edited by: Ascotrudgeracer on Jan 20, 2011 4:50 PM

It's just that everyone is so used to seeing Leigh of Great Britain in GWTW, they can't imagine anyone else. *But keep an OPEN MIND and remember the lovely Tallulah Bankhead of the 30's!* No, she wouldn't have deigned to play the old prostitute/madam...after auditioning (at length) for Scarlett? Don't be redic. Vivien Leigh was good, but there are points when seems cartoonish. Portraying a Southern Belle for Bankhead would have been like swimming in a delicious pool of warm oil.

I MUST choose Marie Windsor over Audrey Totter. Totter made too many big budget masterpieces. Windsor in *"The Killing"* ....her depth of evil and betrayal; simply delicious!

I would like to see what the woman who narrates *"This is the Turner Classic Movie News for (whatever month)"* looks like. Wouldn't you?

When you saw Patrice Wymore Flynn doing the TCM short regarding Errol Flynn, didn't you for a second think you were looking at Lauren Bacall?

Title says it all, I would say. *Funny thing is, Ann-Margret never touches a whip in this gem.* Airs on TCM: March 19, 2:00 AM (EST) Edited by: Ascotrudgeracer on Jan 29, 2010 2:07 PM

Am I The Only One Who Watches TCM?
Ascotrudgeracer replied to Jenetico's topic in General Discussions
I can appreciate this...and another phenomenon: People whom *I know* have TCM on their cable tier WILL NOT ADMIT they get TCM! That's insane! TCM is the greatest business in the history of television. I would not have made it through prescription narcotics addiction without TCM. No, I am not a "drama queen." This is absolutely true. TCM helped me more than any doctor. -

Best film noir directors of all time?
Ascotrudgeracer replied to HollywoodGolightly's topic in Films and Filmmakers
Impossible to add anything to H.G.'s list.....splendid! -
YEESSSSS!!! That drives me insane when they run the credits past at funny car speed! What's the point? Same when they "squish" the credits...are they thinking everyone records it and plays it back at readable speed?
-
Still trying to understand why memorizing obscure credits on forgotten films is so damn important to me, but I've been doing since the early 1960's. *"Million Dollar Movie" and "The Fabulous 52"* on Los Angeles TV got me started. This is no way to live. Edited by: Ascotrudgeracer on Jan 22, 2010 5:44 PM

AKA: *"No Bed of Her Own"* Who wouldn't plunk down some money to see a potboiler with all this promise on the marquee? Cast: Marguerite Churchill (most unfortunate girl), Charles Farrell, Gregory Ratoff, Mischa Auer, Charlie Ruggles. Have to rate this right up there with "I Wake Up Screaming" as top lurid film title of all time. C'mon fellow cultish kindred spirits and (dare I say) SOULMATES...let's campaign for this an a whole night of cult madness!

Anthony Quinn...Player or ???

Yes...this one and some of his early work...usually playing a "hard guy." Liked him in *"Wild is the Wind."* -

PRECISELY! I will never understand the recognition for *Lust for Life.* His performance was understated...to a fault! -
?The Fountainhead?, best comedy of 1949
Ascotrudgeracer replied to FredCDobbs's topic in General Discussions
Yessss...especially Coop and his "drill." As if the general public would get all worked into a lather about the hubris behind some guy's ugly building. All those Ayn Rand asides thrown in...."the stock market of the human spirit; and I sell short!" Patricia Neal absolutely dying for...well, you know. Some Rand enthusiasts believe Cooper ruined her masterpiece. Still, something addictive about it. I loved the photography and the interior of Ray Collins' penthouse. -
I can't decide about Quinn. In *"Requiem for a Heavyweight"* one can't imagine anyone else coming close to that performance (Jack Palance notwithstanding). But Quinn seems kinda awful (or maybe the movie was bad) in other roles...like "Zorba." But what a long, successful career! It just feels like sometimes it's painful to watch him. Whattayathink?
