Ever notice film buffs (and not so buffish) get these two confused? *Woman in the Window (1944) --- Scarlet Street (1945)*

What is your favorite one word movie title?

*Repulsion* (1965). -
Oct. 28, 8:00PM (EST). 1968 classic...atmosphere will remind all you, my dear friends, of the dreaded *"Model Shop".* Great shots of the dreaded Los Angeles of the dreaded late 60's. Mass murder at an iconic (gasp) SoCal drive-in passion pit. See you at the movies! I love everyone!

I consider gravy a beverage.

'Double Indemnity' house returns to '40s glamour

1. The "Howard Roark" penthouse for Ray Collins *The Fountainhead.* 2. James Mason's Black Hills ramble *North by Northwest.* -
*"Strictly poison under the gravy."* That is...dare i say...iconic. Cannot be topped. The Mount Everest of film noir banter.
-
*The Atomic Kid* (1954) If probably haven't seen it...but to see Rooney stumbling around before and after being nuked at Yucca Flats, Nevada, is "loss of bladder control funny." I was at a funeral at for some reason started thinking about it...had to leave.

That courtroom scene wherein he does that little business with the FAKE STAMMERING was the worst I have ever seen Bogie. The ball bearings...pretty cheapie hook, I thought. But audiences and (not-very-good) critics get excited about flotsom like that...Brando picking up and trying on Saint's white glove in On the Waterfront or his petting of a damn cat in his Mafia epic.

Yes, when you mentioned Zuma Beach I could tell you knew this old chestnut. Thanx for lifting the veil.

Francis L. Sullivan. Ring a bell? Maybe not. But who can forget his role as Phil Nosserous in the ORIGINAL *Night and the City (1950)*? He could have had all those juicy Sidney Greenstreet parts and been an improvement. Somebody PLEASE post his picture...my confuser is steam-powered these days.

Sure wish they would air this classic...haven't seen it since women were straight!

That's the mystery...maybe (I'm thinking) the film doesn't "push" the audience at all; it just let's things happen sorta realtime. Realistic, I feel. *Targets* has the same feel (on this month).

I always wonder how many takes it took to get that money to blow out of the suitcase just right for Kubrick's tastes...that scene makes me crazy. Vince Edwards looked at his best in this masterpiece. The man who taught me scuba diving was on Edwards' swimming team in a NY high school. Said Edwards (a backstroker) once backstroked completely out of the pool after he hit the end of the racing lane.

First: he is impossible to NOT watch in film or on TV. Second: He was CHEATED out of an Oscar for *Man with the Golden Arm.* Third: He just HAD to be an actor...great lounge-lizard singer wasn't enough. Fourth: According to author William Manchester, Sinatra was "The Most Hated Man by Troops Fighting in WWII." John Wayne also made that list. 5: I liked Frankie and still do...but he remains a lightning rod for controversy. He gave $millions$ to charity and helped countless thousands anonymously.

OK fellow self-proclaimed film/beauty experts... Do you prefer Windsor in *"Narrow Margin" or "The Killing"*? I say "The Queen of the B's" was twice as deadly (meaning ravishing) in Kubrick's masterpiece. How tall was she? Some think Audrey Totter was "Queen B" but I say she made too many A-listers for that title. Edited by: Ascotrudgeracer on Oct 14, 2009 9:50 AM

All I can say is, starting 11:30AM (EST) Thursday: *High School Confidential* then *I Married a Monster from Outer Space.* "High School Confidential." All you get here is Mamie Van Doren (!), Russ Tamblyn and Jackie Coogan. And who CAN'T watch Whit Bissel? All this AND HEROIN and (gasp) POT! "IMaMfOS." If you have to ask, you're on the wrong board. A delirious gem of madness.

The acting seems blunted, the story non-existent, but as you said, you watch the whole film. There is something about this movie that is mysterious and pleasurable. Just seeing LA in the late 60's...I almost cried.

"Paris Blues" (1961) On Today and LOUSY!
Ascotrudgeracer replied to Ascotrudgeracer's topic in General Discussions
And I can't imagine anyone else but Newman as "Fast" Eddie Felson *The Hustler.* -
You can't hit a home run every time, sure, but Paul Newman really failed in this clunker; his worst effort of all time. Tough to portray a musician if you're not one. Or an athlete if you can barely throw a baseball (sorry memory of Tony Perkins *Fear Strikes Out.*) Newman's disaster on at 2:45 (EST) today, if you REALLY have nothing to do.

Wasn't it GREAT to see Los Angeles bathed in that beautiful afternoon smog of that era? How about some of those old storefronts? Anybody who loves LA (but hates Randy Newman) loves this movie for the atmosphere, choking smog and the store signs we drove past year, after year... Can't wait to see *Targets.* More SoCal nostalgia...and MADNESS!
-
How about youngsters today who don't know what you're talking about when you mention *The Ed Sullivan Show?* And remember when people smoked while grocery shopping...and in doctor's offices?
-
I must say, I agree with everything he says. Pretty amazing perception...wish I would have written it.

What she says is same problem I have with Tomcat Cruise...neither Hanks or Cruise have the ability to make the audience suspend belief. When Cagney or Robinson played gangsters...you could believe they WERE gangsters. Could anyone believe Cruise was a jet pilot, or race car driver? I couldn't. Tom Hanks as an infantry officer slogging away on Omaha Beach on D-Day? NEVER!

The problem with all boxing movies, obviously, is that when an actor tries to look like a boxer in or out of the ring, it's really impossible. Boxing *looks* easy...I assure you, it is not. Same with movies about musicians. We all remember Paul Newman's DISASTER in *Paris Blues (1961)*

It's on in the morning real soon...YOU have to check when; after all, this IS the information age! But how can anyone NOT like it? *Mamie Van Doren(!), Russ Tamblyn, Jackie Coogan...more...AND HEROIN and the dreaded MARIJUANA!* All this at an LA high school (think they used Marshall High).
