  1. Hollyweird still beating up on the Nazis?

National Socialism died April 30, 1945, when Adolf ate his own bullet in the bunker.

What is the fascination? They murdered many millions less than did the communists under Stalin or Mao.

  2. You want a tale that will make the hair on your neck ****, read what happened to this GREAT star who was the victim of medical malpractice, studio indifference and greed.

His battle with narcotic addiction could not be won.

Can't understand why his life has never been a movie...any screenwriters listening?

Remember when Bill Holden referred to him in *Sunset Blvd.?*

  3. TCM has aired these old chestnuts over and over.

    *Blandings* was/is nothing but a one-joke, one-trick-pony.

His choices are decidedly pedestrian...like something a very casual classic film buff might select.

I ask you, aren't my four infinitely better?

    *The Hitler Gang (1944)*

*Young Man with a Horn (1950)*

    *No Down Payment (1957)*

    *Hatful of Rain (1957)*

When do I get my chance as guest programmer...or for that matter, anyone else on this great board?

Dennis Miller has no following to speak of.

  4. LOUSY CHOICE! Idiotic neo-con, cheerleader for the insane Iraq War *cost to U.S. taxpayers: $3 trillion)* tells everybody "I want to kill terrorists," but really means "I want poorly paid, poorly equipped 19-year-olds to kill terrorists, not me, because I'm having lunch at the Beverly Hills Hotel today."

With all the great stars languishing around Hollyweird without work or exposure, since the town has been taken over by children, why not give the opportunity to ANYBODY else who has actually had a movie career?

  5. Fred C. Dobbs--

I can tell you met Frawley, who by the way also owned Technicolor (for a bit) and Sunn Classic Pictures (the *Grizzly Adams* franchise and *The Late Great Planet Earth.)* Sunn Classic (yes, 2 "nn's) were fond of "four-walling" their products, that is, buying up every screen in town for a week with the same show.

That WAS Bing Crosby's old manse in Holmby Hills. But you know who tore it down to build the biggest monstrosity in Holmby Hills...too bad it didn't get him another 2 seconds on earth when his time was up.

  6. I worked for Patrick J. Frawley (Schick Stop Smoking Clinics) and he was POSITIVE the cigarette boys threw millions $$$ at Hollywood to have glamorous actors and actresses smoking in the films.

There is no reason in any plot to have the players smoking.

I wanted to write a book about this very topic, but got sidetracked.

Frawley, a smoker early in life, died of lung cancer.

  7. We've all seen his name in the credits for nearly all MGM films from the Golden Age(s).

Must be the most prolific Art Director in cinema history...just as Douglas Shearer for sound.

But I notice in his latter career, Gibbons always had various "assistants" credited along with him.

Anyone have any "dark secret stuff" about this? I notice the helpers always are...men.

  8. One more "gentle criticism" about "all-day, one-star."

When it was Doris Day's turn previously, it was mostly those corny romps with Rock H.

    They may have screened *"Julie."*

But it was the perfect opportunity to air *"Young Man with a Horn"* as a counterpoint to those silly sex romps (where nothing ever happened, sexually!).

  9. I'm very open about this and I don't care who knows.

I was a *victim* of an insane doctor and his prescription narcotics. Became a total addict. What happened to me would make your hair stand up.

But I beat it, and without TCM I honestly believe I couldn't have survived rapid detox and withdrawal.

I shall always be grateful. Thank you, Turner Classic Movies.

  10. Never met anyone who didn't like Judy...but...

    Judy for 24 hours?

Nooo. That ruins the experience. Could you eat the finest lobster delicacy every day?

This is why it's better to NOT own the DVD of your favorite film. Better to wait breathlessly for it to show up on TCM: *THE greatest company in the history of television!*

  11. Don't get me wrong, TCM is the ONLY thing on television.

But Harold Lloyd all day? I believe this might ruin the day for even his fans...like when you play a favorite song ad nauseum until you can't stand it.

I like it when the daily schedule is peppered with total variety.
