Minor Watson, *As Young as You Feel?*

I've got one: {font:Times New Roman} "I was born in the Bronx in 1935 and was gifted with a beautiful voice, singing at the age of 6 with my church choir. I considered opera for a career, after having voice and piano lessons and earning a scholarship from the Metropolitan Opera, but in my teenage years, I went into modeling. Going for a singing career, I changed my name around and auditioned for an Arthur Godfrey contest and won. I sang on his weekly radio show and started appearing in nightclubs and subsequently the Latin Quarter. Doors were opened for me and I was offered a role in an Arlen/Capote musical on Broadway, where I introduced two songs, that would become standards. I was seen in Broadway shows, winning a Tony in 1962, and a few movies here and there in the 1960s, working with Paul Newman, Gene Hackman, and Jane Fonda, and was seen on musical variety shows, but I felt I could push myself in other ways. Despite my glamorous image, I entered the television game, as a hard-working average girl, being nominated for an Emmy. The show has its unique place in tv history, despite the fact it only ran for two seasons. That was more my choice. I was nominated for Best Actress in the 1970s as another hard-working woman trying to find herself, and I am still working in the television spotlight today, appearing in top television shows of the 1980s, 1990s, and on current tv shows. Do you know me?"{font}

THE BIGGEST TCM CROSSWOOD PUZZLE EVER!
allaboutlana replied to allaboutlana's topic in Games and Trivia
Thanks. Since we have no actual puzzle (obviously), the numbers don't have to make sense. Just number them the clue #. (If and when we ever get to #100, we can start over with #1.) In other words the next is: *2 across starting with S, (one word-eight letters)* *An insurance man is sorry to have met her.* Since some of these may be quite easy (hopefully to move it along) , let's not wait for confirmation, but provide a new one, when answering. If it's wrong, just tell me later. Edited by: allaboutlana on Feb 1, 2012 9:35 AM -

{font:Times New Roman}"Born in Oklahoma, I had a restless nature. After my parents divorced, my brother and sister lived with my mother and I was sent to live with my grandmother in California. But not being able to calm my restlessness, I caught a tramp steamer and lived on the seas, after high school. Then I tried law school, but tired of it and went back to life on the high seas. Then I tried acting on the stage and was given a lukewarm reception in the beginning. My big break came in 1936 when I was offered a plum role in a play and was encouraged by a famous actress of the time to start a film career. I starred in film noirs and melodramas with Barbara Stanwyck and Lana Turner, and westerns with Glenn Ford and Alan Ladd. In one of my last films, I devised a scheme with a bomb. Do you know me?"{font} Edited by: allaboutlana on Feb 2, 2012 10:42 AM

It's been so long now, I've forgotten what I was talking about, and I've not pressed this thread too much, because it did seem kind of complicated. But thanks for playing. I think the answer you're looking for is MILES. -
