It was immediately made into a 1919 silent film, and in 1928 the play of the same name appeared at the New Theatre, London and ran for 234 performances. In 1937, a musical of it was made. It was the first flop for its male lead and was his first musical to lose money. (The female lead was not a singer or dancer.) But the film contains two songs that are considered standards today.
