I am too looking for an old movie that I remember watching with my grandmother (mom's mom).
A hardworking girl is struggling to watch her sick parent and she is very shy and somewhat of a loner. She meets a young man near a pond, after a short romance she ends up falling in love, then he ends up going to war. Before he leaves she gives him a medallion to keep him safe.
I only remember she keeps walking past a church, I don't believe she is of that denomination but she is curious an walk into it. She sees a statue of the Virgin Mary and wonders why she is in the dark and lights up all of the candles beneath her. Everyday as she walks home from work she stops by and lights a candle so the lady will not be in the dark. She is drawn to this church & makes this her mission to keep the candles lit.
In the end her you man ends up getting killed in action, she is very sick and walking through the rain. Stops by the church to light the candles, and has a vision of him. His spirit gives her the medallion back and she dies at the church steps with this in her hand.
This is a childhood memory so I may have some details confused, but I would like to honor my grandmother by finding this movie to share with my mom & sisters.
