Have you seen the stage adaptation of THE 39 STEPS on Broadway? It's a winner!

One of the oulandishly corny lines from the C.B. De Mille re-make of The Ten Commandments in 55/56:
Anne Baxter to Dame Judith Anderson on the identity of Moses:
" The day you reveal the secret is the last your eyes shall see."

Great lines of Dame Edith Evans to her brother Hugh Griffiths in the Oscar Winning TOM JONES:
" Brother, arise from your nocturnal torpor."
or calling him:
" You country clot! "

GREATEST ADAPTATION OF A NOVEL OR PLAY INTO A FILM
in Films and Filmmakers

That is not the case at all, as far as I'm concerned. Of course thousands upon thousands of movies have been based on novels or material from the theatre, but have you heard of an original SREENPLAY..... such as MOONSTRUCK which won John Patrick Shanley an Oscar for material written directly for the screen? Original screenplays are as common as those based on material already published.
