Here are some Universal titles I would like to see on TCM or DVD:
BACK STREET [1932]
THE MAN WHO RECLAIMED HIS HEAD
ROAD TO RENO
CORVETTE K-225
FOLLOW THE BOYS
THE SUSPECT
THE WEB
THE RUNAROUND
WHITE SAVAGE
WHITE TIE AND TAILS
A WOMAN'S VENGEANCE
KISS THE BLOOD OFF MY HANDS
ONCE MORE, MY DARLING
FORBIDDEN [1953]
SIGN OF THE PAGAN
SIX BRIDGES TO CROSS
I am sure there are many others I have overlooked.

I knew its presence on the schedule was too good to last very long.

I think BROKEN ARROW is in the public domain..not sure...but I think it is. If so, then TCM only needed to cough up money for the Universal picture, which I think they did so they could have a double feature of Chandler as Cochise.
By the way BROKEN ARROW plays fairly often on Encore and Retroplex.
Two things: BROKEN ARROW is 20th Century Fox and it is not in the public domain.

Many of Louise Brooks' films have resurfaced in recent years. There is one in particular however that has not. I am talking about BEGGARS OF LIFE [1928] with Richard Arlen and Wallace Beery. This film would make a wonderful premiere on TCM if only they could get the rights to screen it.

I know it sounds paranoid but this is my concern, too. Please, TCM, don't cancel TRICK FOR TRICK for some reason.
You're not alone on that fear. I remember TCM scheduling ESCAPE [1948] on Rex Harrison's day in August and then pulling it off its schedule.

She played with the best of them, because she was the best. Thank you for wonderful memories, Joan Leslie. Rest in peace. Say hello to Bogie, Gary, Jimmy and Fred for me.

Great suspense film. Great performace by Robinson. A marvelous score by Miklos Rozsa.

I totally agree. THE BREAKING POINT is one of Michael Curtiz's best films. The entire cast in this film does an excellent job. By the way, the only piece of ---- on today's tribute to Patricia Neal is RATON PASS. She must have known it also. When interviewed by Robert Osborne a few years before her death,it wasn't even mentioned.

Too bad TCM couldn't come up with one of Mr. Fairbanks' last leading man roles in the excellent English production of STATE SECRET.
-
Just want to bring this thread up to date with the latest information I have received from the Warner Archive,"those films are not clear for release at the present time". Evidentally, as most of us suspected, it is a rights issue.

The fine actress of the late '40's has passed away of natural causes at the age of 92. I will remember her always from Nightmare Alley and Kiss of Death. She had a small part in Red River, but she sure played her scene with John Wayne with great conviction. He should have taken her with him, but then that would have changed the development of that classic western. Red River, my second favorite western next to Shane.

Yes, this has been reported for a while. I know nobody who has actually seen the print, however. I believe Warners has one reel of the film. This is number one on my lost films list. I do not know whether or not rights reverted back to WW Jacobs or his estate, but the short length of the film alone would have prevented a reissue. Actually, none of RKO's early creepers (BEFORE DAWN, ROADHOUSE MURDER, etc) were re-released. The pseudo-exception was SEVEN KEYS TO BALDPATE, which was remade twice by RKO.
There are only two reviews for RKO's THE MONKEY'S PAW on IMDB - one from childhood when the film was released and one based only on the story.
Here's the original announcement thread over at Nitrateville:
Thanks for your comments,Ray. No matter what the running time of the film, I am sure this would be a major event if it were to appear on TCM or come out on DVD. It's number one on my want list followed by CONVENTION CITY.
-
A few hours ago someone at the filmscoremonthly.com message board posted a thread saying that the long lost RKOfeature film from 1933,THE MONKEY'S PAW, had been found in Italy two years ago in a French dubbed version. Does anyone know anything about this ? If true,it would be quite a find to say the least.

Thanks for all that you have given us, Mr. Bikel. You will not be forgotten. G_d bless.

Yes...but of course, these three stars also had hits post-48. I am sure TCM could air some of Hutton's and Lamour's Paramount films-- they did one together called AND THE ANGELS SING that would be perfect around Christmastime.
Yes, Tony Curtis was coming into his own in the early 50's. He was a star in the making, but by the 50's Lamour and Hutton were in the twilight of their movie careers.
-
Dorothy Lamour , Betty Hutton and Tony Curtis are notable standouts on this thread, because Comcast's ownership of pre-48 Paramount films and the Universal film library are in their hands. They go at a snails pace even when it comes to putting their films on DVD.

I thought we'd find out October's schedule today. Maybe later this week...?
It looks like all forthcoming schedules won't appear until the third week of the month. At least that's what the previous 2 months have shown.

A movie I have seen many, many times. One of the greatest films to come out of the post-war period.

I mentioned.in another thread that it's a shame that so few of Susan's Paramount films are being shown; I believe it's only two. AMONG THE LIVING would have been great. Besides Susan, Frances Farmer also stars in it; it may have been her last.at Paramount. In little over a year later, Farmer's tragic last run-in with the law would begin.
There has always been great difficulty in getting the Paramounts and Universals we want whether it be on cable or DVD.
-
The missing Richard Widmark film for me is THE FROGMEN. Hasn't even played on the Fox Movie Channel. Probably could be found on youtube, but I would rather see it on TCM.
-
Too bad TCM couldn't have shown two early Susan Hayward films from Paramount that brought great attention to her beginnings at stardom :
An excellent b-film with Albert Dekker, AMONG THE LIVING
THE FOREST RANGERS with Fred Mac Murray and Paulette Goddard.
By the way, the song I'VE GOT SPURS THAT JINGLE,JANGLE, JINGLE comes from this film.

The Disney animation films were great!

In future months, I hope Leonard Maltin will be able to screen on TCM three animated features from the 1940's as they were shown in theatres without the currently edited DVD versions. I am referring to: SALUDOS AMIGOS
MAKE MINE MUSIC
MELODY TIME
After all they should be shown as Walt Disney conceived them.
Perhaps, he can also convince the Disney Studio to allow the rarely seen SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON with Thomas Mitchell from 1940 to be shown on TCM.
