JOHNNY DEPP BRUCE WILLIS MEL GIBSON SYLVESTER STALLONE -
It would make a wonderful month of rarely seen Universal 'B' films. By the way, we hardly get any Universal 'A' films.
-
And don't forget James Mac Arthur's first movie assignment at Disney, THE LIGHT IN THE FOREST. That one would be a premiere showing on TCM.

NEWS: Disney Pairs Up With Turner Classic Movies
cody1949 replied to Barton_Keyes's topic in General Discussions
I am very pleased to see this pairing up of Disney with TCM. Last night was a pure delight. My only regret is that this looks like a 4 times a year hook-up instead of a monthly affair. The following is a list of films I hope Disney and TCM will air: SONG OF THE SOUTH SO DEAR TO MY HEART SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON - Both the 1940 version and the 1960 version. The 1940 version, unseen for years, was made independently and released by RKO,but is under Disney control going back to when the 1960 remake was produced at Disney. THE LIGHT IN THE FOREST MAKE MINE MUSIC - THE UN-EDITED VERSION. That means The Martins and The Coys segment and the All the Cats Join segment without any deletions. FUN AND FANCY FREE MELODY TIME - THE UN-EDITED VERSION. That means the Pecos Bill segment shown as it was seen in theaters back in 1948. I am sure many of our members on this board have their want lists also. Please enter your wish lists. -
NEWS: Disney Pairs Up With Turner Classic Movies

It's great to have Disney films being shown on TCM. I have only a few concerns. I want them to be shown as they were originally shown in the theaters. For example, if they show the Pecos Bill segment from MELODY TIME, I want the cigarette put back in his mouth. It was eliminated for video. Regarding MAKE MINE MUSIC,there were 10 segments not 9 as in the video presentation, restore the Hatfield and Coys segment. I also think a Benny Goodman segment was eliminated for the video presentation of one of these films. -
REPUBLIC PICTURES as STAR OF THE MONTH

Bella Darvi would not have gone anywhere without the help of Darryl Zanuck. The same for a very nice lady,Ms.Ralston through her marriage to Herbert Yates. -

REPUBLIC PICTURES as STAR OF THE MONTH
cody1949 replied to PrinceSaliano's topic in General Discussions
Two great character actors worked at Republic, Lloyd Nolan and Charles Bickford. Lloyd Nolan appeared in GANGS OF CHICAGO and BEHIND THE NEWS, both from 1940. Charles Bickford was in GANGS OF NEW YORK made in 1938 with Ann Dvorak. Other Republic films I would like to see starred Don Barry on hiatus from his western films. REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR THE TRAITOR WITHIN THE WESTSIDE KID MY BUDDY THE CHICAGO KID THE LAST CROOKED MILE SLIPPY MC GEE .... and a few others. -

This year the critics all praised BOYHOOD. WHAT A BORE ! NOAH was another stinker. -

You nailed it perfectly. I know it's not good to judge something before you see it,but I predict it will be all special effects without a heart and soul. The Ten Commandments of 60 years ago had some silly dialogue, but it was an emotional experience. At least for me.The comic book industry has taken over Hollywood. Hollywood goes where the money is.

COMCAST SHOULD START THEIR OWN MOVIE CHANNEL

Please do that ! And if they say who sent you, warn them of the plagues that will come if they don't obey. -
COMCAST SHOULD START THEIR OWN MOVIE CHANNEL
cody1949 replied to cody1949's topic in General Discussions
Really nothing. Well I should say , put on the market about 15 mod DVD titles per year; mostly from their package of Universal horror films from the 30's and 40's and Jon Hall / Maria Montez costumers from the 40's. Where is ? : CORVETTE K-225 RIDE THE PINK HORSE THE WEB NORTH WEST MOUNTED THE SUSPECT BACK STREET [1932] IVY FOLLOW THE BOYS [1944] SIX BRIDGES TO CROSS KISS THE BLOOD OFF MY HANDS ETC. -
COMCAST SHOULD START THEIR OWN MOVIE CHANNEL
cody1949 replied to cody1949's topic in General Discussions
Well, I guess they have. But it sure isn't the classic films from the 30's,40's and 50's that I had in mind. -
Why not ? They have a vast library of films from Universal and pre-48 Paramount releases.

It's time for commericals on TCM to save the channel
cody1949 replied to MovieMadness's topic in General Discussions
Sure, but put on the commercials before the movie starts: like what's happening at some movie theaters these days. Otherwise, forget it ! Just create your own DVD library as many have done over the years. -
So Which Version of SHANE Will TCM Show Sunday Evening?
cody1949 replied to TomJH's topic in General Discussions
I am going to use capital letters. SHANE IS THE GREATEST WESTERN THAT WAS EVER MADE. NOBODY, YES NOBODY, COULD HAVE BEEN SHANE BUT ALAN LADD. ALL THE PARTS IN THIS MASTERPIECE OF A FILM WERE CAST AND PLAYED TO PERFECTION. Westerns are not on the Hollywood agenda these days, but should they reappear ocassionally, none will ever top SHANE. -
BARRY MONUSH AND THE BOOK, SCREEN WORLD
cody1949 replied to cody1949's topic in Information, Please!
I posted this thread 2 months ago. I found Barry Monush's e-mail address and I contacted him yesterday. He was very kind in replying to my query so quickly. For those of us who loved these books it is sad to know that Volume 64 was the last of its kind. Mr.Monush said a lack of interest, the large number of releases each year and the internet have brought SCREEN WORLD to an end. -
Yes, that's the review I am referring to. Mr. Maltin gave it 3 stars. I must say 90 % of the time I agree with his reviews.
-
By the way, there is another adaptation of a Philip Stong novel that never gets played on TCM for one reason or another. I don't have it. I have never seen it. It's called VILLAGE TALE, made at RKO in 1935 with Randolph Scott and Kay Johnson. See what Leonard Maltin has to say about it in one of his yearly film guides.
-
I beg to differ with you. Not all versions should be made available. The version that really matters is the one directed by the director, King Vidor. By the way, the complete version I have is on a disc and doesn't look to be that old. I would venture to guess that it might have been on TNT before TCM ever got started.

You're quite welcome. I wonder if "the powers that be" will restore the missing footage. If I have it,they should have it. If they care...???
