  1. Don't remove the already set Jewish Experience on Film segments on September 16 for her well deserved tribute. I am looking forward to seeing Dana Andrews in THE SWORD IN THE DESERT.
  2. Lauren Bacall is a legend of Hollywood. She had a long and productive life. She definitely needs a tribute on TCM sometime in the next two weeks. Just please don't do it on Claudette Colbert's day , the 18th, or Edmond O'Brien's day, the 27th.
  3. Hopefully this month we will get to see SKYLARK from Paramount and AN ACT OF MURDER from Universal. I say hopefully because they could always be pulled at the last minute. Wow! Two rare showings from the Universal vault in one month. Excuse me. Make that 4 rare showings. GIVE ME A SAILOR with Bob Hope and THIS GUN FOR HIRE with Alan Ladd will also be shown this month. Could this be the start of something ? Let's hope so.
  4. Last week I went to the theater to see a new movie called BOYHOOD. It got such wonderful reviews in many publications around the country. I had to check it out. It talked itself to death and finally put me to sleep in my chair. I'm not one for summer comic book action movies but I also do not want to be bored to death. By the way, I did like A MOST WANTED MAN.
  5. I have always felt that there is something menacing in his personality. That also extends not only to his best movie roles,THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER and CAPE FEAR,but also to any interviews he gave. I'm not complaining. Next to Cagney, he was my second favorite actor. That sense of not knowing when he will "explode" made him very fascinating.
  6. In case one or two of you don't what movie I am referring to : LOST HORIZON [1937]
  7. Ronald Colman [Conway] finally sees the entrance to Shangri-la and the bells ring. God, I love what Capra created with this movie. The cast was perfection and the score by Dimitri Tiomkin was nothing short of magnificent.
  8. Of the three classic gangster films of the early '30's, LITTLE CAESAR, THE PUBLIC ENEMY, and SCARFACE, I consider SCARFACE to be the best.
  9. My name should say it all. To be followed by YANKEE DOODLE DANDY and ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES. There is one however that I always avoid : THE OKLAHOMA KID.
  10. Happy Birthday, Jimmy ! You're still the GREATEST !
  11. The big surprise for me is the showing of THE STRANGER'S RETURN from 1933 on the 14th. This film has been withheld from viewing for many years due to rights issues. The excellent review from Leonard Maltin has me very curious.
  12. I wish Universal would release her breakthrough role in Paramount's excellent little B film,AMONG THE LIVING. A DVD or a showing on TCM would be most welcomed.
  13. An adventure film that became a comedy because of terrible miscasting is best exemplified by THE CONQUEROR. John Wayne uttering the words of dialogue given to him as the Mongol leader was just too much to take . The best thing about the movie was the score by Victor Young.
  14. A great film. Thanks to Director Laughton, Actors Mitchum and Gish, Score provided by Walter Schumann, and the photography of Stanley Cortez. Back in 1955 it only played for 3 days at my neighborhood theater by-passing Broadway completely. They didn't realize what they had. Time has been good to this film.
  15. I have been wanting to see those two titles since I first got TCM in1997. Skylark has never been on cable TV in the U.S. An Act of Murder was on AMC ages ago when Bob Dorian was doing the introductions. So let's keep our fingers crossed, but not be too shocked if it is pulled.
  16. A few very interesting premieres I am looking forward to are SKYLARK with Claudette Colbert and AN ACT OF MURDER with Fredric March on Edmond O'Brien day. My biggest and very realistic concern is that by time August rolls around these titles will be replaced by some other titles. It has happened numerous times in the past. For example; whatever happened to SEA SPOILERS during John Wayne tribute month ? Premieres of Paramount and Universal titles that are planned disappear too easily from the schedule.
  17. Looking forward to tonight's interview. We all move on in years. In my youth I had a crush of Eva. From the simple sweet girl in ON THE WATERFRONT to the gorgeous sophisticate in NORTH BY NORTHWEST.
  18. Oh yes! I remember this man on Captain Video before he left and was replaced by Al Hodge. I saw it in 1949 at my friend, Raymond's house. We didn't get a TV until September, 1950. My dad had to have it for the Yankees vs. Phillies World Series. It was an RCA. In New York City where I started my life, Captain Video was on Channel 5, the Dumont Network. This was the network where Jackie Gleason started his TV career. Anyway, my mom loved to watch the soaps and I remember Richard Coogan going on to play in Love of Life with Peggy McKay. That all seems like a thousand years ago now.
  19. Peter Kastner starred in another excellent movie two years earlier in 1964 made in Canada called NOBODY WAVED GOODBYE. I have been trying to find this movie for years with no luck. If anybody out there has information about this movie, please post on this thread. Thanks.
  20. A tribute for Shirley Temple, of course ! Another Sunday when the youngsters are off from school would have been better. The TCM premiere showing of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE is also canceled on the 9th.
  21. Sorry for all the posts, but they are coming into my mind in dribs and drabs. Jack Palance in a few films: PANIC IN THE STREETS SUDDEN FEAR SHANE Didn't he play Attila, the Hun also ?
  22. Here's another one: Ross Martin in EXPERIMENT IN TERROR.
  23. Wes Studi as Magua in THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS. Joe Pesci in GOODFELLAS. Robert DeNiro in CAPE FEAR Robert Mitchum in THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER as well as CAPE FEAR Robert Ryan in CROSSFIRE, BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK, and BILLY BUDD. Lee Marvin in THE BIG HEAT and BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK. Ernest Borgnine in BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK.
  24. I was referring to Javier Bardem of course. He was terrific in SKYFALL also.
  25. Oh ! Definitely YES. I forgot about his performance in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. Very, very chilling !
