Oh, that face, that fabulous face II - Post 1950's. Whose is it?
cody1949 replied to Kid Dabb's topic in General Discussions
None other than John Dehner. Just saw him get shot by Gary Cooper in MAN OF THE WEST. -
Ray, you always seem well informed to me. Do you know who has control of the Joe Palooka series of 11 films made at Monogram between 1946 and 1951?

Yes, that's #1 of an 11 film series at Monogram that I am inquiring about. Thanks for sending the picture. -
JOE PALOOKA - MONOGRAM PICTURE SERIES ?

Thanks, but none of those listed are from the Joe Palooka Monogram series I am referring to. I am talking about a series of films made between 1946 and 1951 with Joe Kirkwood, Jr. I am not referring to the 1934 film with Jimmy Durante. -
We've seen some of Monogram's Charlie Chan films, Bowey Boys films, Cisco Kid films put on DVD. What has happened to these second features that starred Joe Kirkwood,Jr. , Leon Errol and Elyse Knox. The string of films were produced between 1946 and the early '50's.

My error. I found it.

Here's a title omitted from the database : DESIRE [1936] starring Gary Cooper and Marlene Dietrich .

By sheer luck I looked at the schedule on this website this morning and made the 15 minute adjustment. From now on it is something I will need to do if I want to record.

When do we get: THIS THING CALLED LOVE PARDON MY PAST A PRIZE OF GOLD BLIND SPOT THE WALLS CAME TUMBLING DOWN I LOVE TROUBLE [1948] -
THREE SECRETS was made at WB for the Milton Sperling unit. Those films, like PURSUED, fell into the control of Republic Home Video which is now under the control of Paramount . Perhaps it will be released by Olive Films in the future.

This is my favorite Steven Spielberg movie. Whenever it is being shown, I am drawn to it as if Svengali has a power over my mind. The last 30 minutes are especially spellbinding. -
It seems that this morning 2/26/13 we lost another western hero of movies and television. Although never a big star at 20CF, he did do many westerns that were second features when going to the movies in the early 50's; ala Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea. On TV he was Jim Hardie in TALES OF WELLS FARGO. He had a very distintive voice that made him perfect for westerns. Thanks for the memories. Sleep well.

If not a DVD release then at least a showing on TCM. It was available on AMC many years ago. Although distributed originally by United Artists, it came under Warner Bros. control for cable viewing.
-
Also: How about more serials on Saturday mornings?
-
Based on what I see for the first four months of the year I doubt it will happen. Here goes anyway ! Open up the pre-48 Paramount titles and the Universal titles that would be premieres on TCM. We shouldn't have to buy all these titles from the TCM vault to see them.
-
Does anyone know why this excellent movie from Canada with Richard Dreyfuss has not been seen on TV or been available on DVD ? It was distributed by Paramount in the U.S. in 1974.
-
I would love to see Alan Ladd as star of any month. There's a problem though with TCM programmers. Take a look over the last year or two. 99% of the Paramount films they show have been shown before. Premieres of Paramount films on TCM practically DON'T exist.

Then there's MGM's REMAINS TO BE SEEN from 1953 with Van Johnson and June Allyson. -

LITTLE MAN, WHAT NOW? from Universal in 1934 with Margaret Sullavan and Douglass Montgomery is an excellent film that deserves to be seen again. It has been on Universal's shelf for over 20 years. -

Not only has WINGED VICTORY never been shown on TCM; it hasn't played on the Fox Movie Channel. By the way, Universal also did an all-star WW2 tribute film in 1944 called FOLLOW THE BOYS with the likes of Marlene Dietrich, Orson Welles, George Raft, W.C.Fields, Dinah Shore, etc.It too is gathering dust somewhere. It last played in the late '80's when Robert Osborne was introducing movies on THE MOVIE CHANNEL. It may have played on AMERICAN MOVIE CLASSICS also. -

CEILING ZERO with James Cagney , WHITE BANNERS with Claude Rains , FROM THIS DAY FORWARD with Joan Fontaine, CHRISTOPHER BEAN with Marie Dressler , BULLDOG DRUMMOND STRIKES BACK with Ronald Colman, SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON with Thomas Mitchell ,A VILLAGE TALE with Randolph Scott, THE STRANGER'S RETURN with Lionel Barrymore , COME FILL THE CUP with James Cagney , WINGED VICTORY with an all-star WW2 cast , THE MOON IS DOWN with Henry Travers, THE WHITE PARADE with Loretta Young , DEATH OF A SALESMAN with Fredric March, THE BRAVE BULLS with Anthony Quinn. There are others I am sure that I have not listed. -
I remember reading somewhere that Jack Lemmon , as director, wanted James Cagney for KOTCH. The role went to Walter Matthau who did a fine job. It would have been very interesting to see how my idol, James Cagney, would have played the role.
-
When will TCM clear up whatever the problem is with showing FROM THIS DAY FORWARD. I love Joan in this one. It's an RKO film from 1946 so it should be in the Turner library.

Calvinnme, as far as I am concerned the secret is yours. I am just happy to see the schedule posted when it is posted. You and Topbilled deserve a lot of credit. We don't want to get the folks at TCM too upset. I agree. By the way, I hope in February they can get a hold of THE WHITE PARADE made at Fox and nominated for Best Picture in 1934. I have given up on seeing DEATH OF A SALESMAN with Fredric March.
