"Casting Against Type" Greatest Moment
cody1949 replied to Ascotrudgeracer's topic in General Discussions
Did anyone mention Fred Mac Murray in DOUBLE INDEMNITY or Robert Mitchum in RYAN'S DAUGHTER ? -
Calvinnme, I have 2 TV's , I am taping BLACK SHEEP and SILVER DOLLAR.
-
Probably both.

Today Friday, 12/9 they are showing what their online schedule has scheduled for Friday 12/16. Who is the " bonehead " over there? TCM occasionally makes scheduling errors but not the entire day. For those of you with access to the Fox Movie Channel check it out.

Perhaps one of the secrets to longevity and happiness is learning to see lifes setbacks and tragedies in a different light. She has certainly had her share and yet her positive spirit continues to shine through. It is clearly visible in her work.

Just a thought. Comcast recently bought Universal from NBC. Perhaps this is what is holding up many of the Paramount pre'48 and Universal titles from appearing on TCM. Comcast could put them on their on-demand service at $2.99 a viewing. I haven't seen this happen yet,but it is a possibility.

You can tell whether it's a good month or not by the number of premieres. Based on what has been listed so far, I would say pretty bad.
-
Thanks Topbilled. You are the one, time and time again, to get the information first and then post it for us. Regarding the titles so far, nothing very exciting. I would have loved to seen DEATH OF A SALESMAN on that list. Arthur Miller supposedly hated Fredric March's portrayal and that has something to do with keeping this out of Sony's hands and therefore TCM'S hands. March was nominated for an Oscar however.

Thank you very much, Fred.

Can anyone list the 12 chapter titles from this serial?

Some people might lose Fox Movie, FX and NatGeo channels.

For me that's OK. Especially, the Fox Movie Channel. Repeat, repeat, repeat. You get more interesting stuff from 20CF at TCM than the Fox Movie Channel. Case in point, THE VALIANT with Paul Muni from 1929 coming in December on TCM. -
Where is his movie THE SAVAGE INNOCENTS with Anthony Quinn? Not on cable or DVD.
-
WHEN I GROW UP , SOULS AT SEA , DESIRE , CRIME WITHOUT PASSION , O.S.S. , BACK STREET [1932] , BEGGARS OF LIFE , THE FOREST RANGERS , CORVETTE K-225 ,LITTLE MAN, WHAT NOW? ,AMONG THE LIVING ,THE NORTHWEST MOUNTED POLICE , THIS THING CALLED LOVE , WELLS FARGO , CRIME OF THE CENTURY , THE PROUD REBEL [ original aspect ratio] ,ALIAS NICK BEAL , FROM THIS DAY FORWARD , IVY , ESCAPE [1948] ,THE MACOMBER AFFAIR, THE LAST OUTPOST, NOBODY WAVED GOODBYE.

Is everybody ready? On the count of three begin ignoring this thread. 1 2 3.
-
Wouldn't it be terrific if threads like this were totally ignored? Maybe it would make the poster come up with a more sensible subject.
-
Thanks musicalnovelty for the info. What did you think of the film? I would like to see them do or show on TCM a picture they once scheduled but then pulled, THIS THING CALLED LOVE. It stars Melvyn Douglas and Rosalind Russell.

I see that a 4 movie Jean Arthur DVD Collection is now available for purchase at the TCM shop. One of the films is PUBLIC MENACE with George Murphy in 1935. Has this movie been shown on the TCM cable channel yet?
-
I love Cagney. He's my favorite actor of all time, but let's leave something memorable for George Raft. Besides, Cagney and Bogart as brothers just doesn't work for me. They were adversaries in too many previous films to all of a sudden be cast as brothers.

I wish TCM would clear the rights to FROM THIS DAY FORWARD so we could see Joan Fontaine and Mark Stevens as young married couple trying to get started after WW2. A really nice film produced at RKO in 1946. It was on the old AMC years ago.

OT: How often do you go to movies?
cody1949 replied to GreatMoviesFan's topic in General Discussions
I usually see about 20 pictures a year at the theater. This year so far I have only seen 2 films, CARS 2 and CONTAGION. CARS 2 was a disappointment I must admit. The best pictures from the best directors will be coming out in the next few months, so who knows I may wind up pretty close to 20. Comedies and comic book action movies have never been my cup of tea. The first 9 months of this year we have been inundated with these kind of films. The reason for seeing CARS 2 is because I have never missed a Pixar film. -
George Kennedy in LONELY ARE THE BRAVE. I remember him calling for Kirk Douglas;" I want you John W. Burns". He got his with a rifle butt later in the film much to my great joy.
-
I have no idea where Ms.Fontaine resides. If it is here in America I wonder if she was watching. Just a thought. I don't suppose we will ever know. I thought her performance was totally beautiful.

Who was the hammiest actor in the movies?
cody1949 replied to doctorxx's topic in General Discussions
Not in every movie of his, but in quite a few. I would have to say, Rod Steiger. -
THE CONSTANT NYMPH (1943) to air on TCM
cody1949 replied to TopBilled's topic in General Discussions
I am recording it. That way I won't have to worry about it being a one time thing.
