  1. James Cagney, the greatest actor of all time in Warner Brothers best picture. I am saying this because of two very different films; WHITE HEAT and YANKEE DOODLE DANDY.
  2. Unfortunately, William P.,THE RED HOUSE, a much superior film than The Hoodlum, went into public domain years ago and what is available on DVD is of poor picture quality. As of this date no one has come up with a really good print.
  3. To be quite frank, a lousy print of a lousy movie. No wonder his career took a very long sabatical. I was hoping for better. You can't win 'em all. Good night all.
  4. Yes, he looks and feels the part very well. There is no doubt about that. The film itself, is indeed a masterpiece . But knowing it is not his voice takes something away for me.
  5. Then Burt Lancaster accepted a role in which he knew he was going to be dubbed. And yet he considered this his best performance ? Don't get me wrong. I always enjoy Burt Lancaster but this role just doesn't sit right with me.
  6. Is that Burt Lancaster speaking Italian or was his voice dubbed? I have a feeling it was the latter. Doesn't that take away from the joy of his performance? What do you think?
  7. Yes indeed, Topbilled. It has played in the past a lot on the Encore Western Channel. A very underrated western. Enjoyed it very much.
  8. Has anyone "divined" what the Saturday serial will be at the end of November after Zorro's Fighting Legion? Please no jokes about my use of the word "divined".
  9. Topbilled, It has not been released on home video. It played on the old AMC years ago, but in an edited version. According to Leonard Maltin it originally ran 115 minutes.
  10. I would love to see a complete print of WELLS FARGO that Joel McCrea did with his wife, the beautiful Frances Dee. This is a Paramount film so who knows what my chances are.
  11. Hello Topbilled, I read somewhere that CHRISTOPHER BEAN was never in the package that Ted Turner bought many years ago now. I'm pretty sure the source was Leonard Maltin in a book of his. It wasn't his annual movie guide however.
  12. Did anyone see MASSACRE? Did you think Mr.Maltin was off-target?
  13. Sylvia Sidney is also a case in point. I would love to see her Paramount pre-codes. She was under contract there, but very, very few of her films from that era have been shown. The most recent of which was CITY STREETS with Gary Cooper.
  14. It is my belief that the Paramount silent films are owned by Paramount not Universal. I would love to see BEGGARS OF LIFE with Louise Brooks, Richard Arlen and Wallace Beery. UNDERWORLD has already been issued on DVD.
  15. I'll tell you 4 or 5 Stars of the Month that you will probably never see. Why? Because most of their work was at Paramount and to lease these movies would be too costly for TCM. Besides, they would save them to issue them as DVD's in their vault series. ALAN LADD , DOROTHY LAMOUR , BING CROSBY , BOB HOPE , and EDDIE BRACKEN.
  16. Yes, that's OK. However, what premiere showings could TCM come up with from his list of films? I hope it won't just be the usual William Powell films no matter how good they are.
  17. August 9 will be an especially interesting day. I had a chance to see MASSACRE from a collector's copy. This I believe will be its premiere showing on TCM. It's not a classic, but it is much better than Leonard Maltin's rating. Check it out. I don't think you will be disappointed.
  18. Spencer Tracy was under contract at Fox from 1930-1935 and many movies over there; yet only 4 or 5 have played cable or have been put on DVD. What a shame !
  19. Yes indeed ! I wish they could show more Fox Film Corporation movies, before the takeover by 20th Century in 1935. I realize that some films are probably lost or in poor condition. However, TCM has more respect for the viewer's desire to see really old movies than the Fox Movie Channel which might put a premiere on their schedule every six months. It's repetition month after month.
  20. What you are getting are public domain titles. Mill Creek does not have to get permission from anyone to sell these movies. They are usually in fair to poor condition.
  21. A question for Topbilled: How have you gotten an October schedule for days beyond October 6 ? Please help.
  22. That's easy ! August 9 . MASSACRE , FRIENDS OF MR.SWEENEY , COLLEGE COACH , and THE CROWD ROARS.
  23. Just one of many looking forward to the October schedule beyond the 20% we have already seen. I guess the key word is patience.
  24. This western has occasionally been shown on Encore's Western Channel. Yes, I would like to see more B westerns shown on TCM,especially those from Republic and Universal. A Saturday morning time slot would be a good time for them. Forget about the singing cowboys. Let's have The 3 Mesquiteers, Allan Lane,Sunset Carson, Don Barry, Rod Cameron and Kirby Grant.
