  1. The Paramounts I would like to see on TCM are SOULS AT SEA , DESIRE , CRIME WITHOUT PASSION, THE FOREST RANGERS , BEGGARS OF LIFE [silent] , O.S.S. , MARY BURNS FUGITIVE, AMONG THE LIVING , THE NORTHWEST MOUNTED POLICE , THE LAST OUTPOST, WELLS FARGO , CRIME OF THE CENTURY , and ALIAS NICK BEAL What's fun is finding others to add to that list. I am sure I will.
  2. SLIGHTLY FRENCH, I believe is Columbia. The 1935 version of THE GLASS KEY has never been on commercial or cable TV. You can find releasing companies for any film at www.imdb.com
  3. Topbilled, that is a terrific list. I am glad you posted it. I just want to pass on some information to you. Yes, they were Paramount releases, but now they are controlled by various companies. The pre-48's are controlled by Universal Studios, the post '48's by Paramount itself. There are some exceptions in that great list. You have listed a great many Hopalong Cassidy westerns which the William Boyd estate owned at one time. Not any longer. The Bulldog Drummonds I believe are now public domain. Some of the Bob Hope films are owned by the Hope estate. Now let's take Alan Ladd as an example. The same can be said for Dorothy Lamour. If either one of them were to be the Star of the Month it would be quite expensive for TCM because most of their films were made at Paramount.TCM usually gives no more than 2 or 3 new Paramount titles per month. What TCM seems to be doing right now with a lot of Paramount and Universal titles is creating exclusive DVD box sets. If anyone else has another take on this, please reply. Thanks.
  4. Yes, he was always quite a presence on the screen. Many performances come to mind but one in particular that stays in my mind is his role in INTRUDER IN THE DUST. Strength and dignity he personified.
  5. God help us after Scorcese, Spielberg,Nicholson,De Niro,Pacino,Hoffman, and Hanks and very very few others leave the scene. Are we to be left to the mercies of the Johnny Depps? I pray not.
  6. Because they basically have a story which is primary to me. They are not carried by special effects and non-stop action.
  7. Another movie that has rights issues that keeps it off TCM so far is THE STRANGER'S RETURN, directed by King Vidor. The leads are Lionel Barrymore, Miriam Hopkins and Franchot Tone.
  8. Instead of the 1961 version of BACK STREET, I would have prefered the 1932 version with Irene Dunne. It's probably the best of the 3. Shown years ago on the old AMC.
  9. Wish they would screen FROM THIS DAY FORWARD. My favorite Joan Fontaine film. It hasn't been shown for years. The last time on the old AMC.
  10. Thanks TOPBILLED you solved my frustration. Much appreciated. My mother thanks you, my father thanks you, my sister thanks you and I thank you. Cody 1949.
  11. I entered the following and got nothing: www.tcm.com/schedule/monthly.html?tz=est&sdate=2011-09-14. Have I done something wrong?
  12. Once again, where did you see this wonderful news? I can't find it anywhere right now.
  13. Where did you see this wonderful news. I can't find it anywhere right now.
  14. Still a work in progress. There are still empty time slots. No matter, happy to see what is there now. Looking forward to Richard Dix and THE VANISHING AMERICAN on the fourth.
  15. And House Peters,Jr. as pilot removed early in Chapter 1. I remember him from many henchman roles in THE LONE RANGER TV series with the great Clayton Moore.
  16. Looking at Leonard Maltin's book on old movies, I came across this title I never heard of with a fairly good review. WHOM THE GODS DESTROY [1934] with Walter Connolly and Robert Young among others. Yes, it is a Columbia. The one I am really eager to see however is THIS THING CALLED LOVE. Once scheduled then pulled.
  17. Really looking forward to this. Hoping for the 2 Don Winslow serials in the future.
  18. I hope somewhere down the road TCM will resurrect the 2 Don Winslow serials from the early '40's. Sweetest of all would be the greatest serials ever made. That could only be the Flash Gordon serials.
  19. I wish he had been given a tribute while he was with us by the television industry or something like the Kennedy Center Honors. Perhaps he didn't want it. I don't know.
  20. The silent classic THE BEGGARS OF LIFE with Louise Brooks, Richard Arlen, and Wallace Beery.THE STRANGER'S RETURN with Lionel Barrymore, Miriam Hopkins and Franchot Tone.THE CONSTANT NYMPH with Joan Fontaine and Charles Boyer. FROM THIS DAY FORWARD with Joan Fontaine and Mark Stevens.
  21. CHRISTOPHER BEAN . FROM THIS DAY FORWARD , and THE MACOMBER AFFAIR.
  22. Didn't Ken Maynard do some westerns in the silent era at Warner Bros ? And for that matter, didn't Tim McCoy do some westerns at MGM in the silent era also. It would be nice if TCM could screen these. That is of course if they still exist.
  23. In short, thank you TCM for remembering us seniors who were kids 50 to 60 years ago. The next time you do this again let's have Don ' Red' Barry,Wild Bill Elliott, Sunset Carson and Allan 'Rocky' Lane. They may not sing but they sure were a lot of fun to watch.
  24. It didn't change me,thank God. However it did give me my favorite actor of all time - JAMES CAGNEY. First it was WHITE HEAT in the RKO Chester in 1949. I didn't get around to seeing YANKEE DOODLE DANDY until it played on Million Dollar Movie, Channel 9 in New York some 10 years later. Wow ! What a talent !
