  1. just saw this...can't remember where tho. Maybe Johnny O'Clock ??l
  2. Your 1st choice is the correct sequel.
  3. Pardon my typo. My keyboard is going...Eastern Europe is the area. He's from what used to be Austria-Hungary. That seemed too lengthy. Can you name him? I'll give a hint if that will help: The movie sequel referred to is hailed as the best ever. ??
  4. This Eastern born European celebrity became an important figure in large community of actors/performers in NYC. He lost an Oscar win to his costar in a well-known sequel. Can you name him?
  5. I don't know how big a hit it was but I remember Phil Harris singing it somewhere....loonngg time ago. Is he your dude??
  6. I believe it to be Jo Stafford that is your "Madonna". I just heard a recording of her You Belong To Me at '40s on 4. She was the 1st woman to have a #1 hit on the UK's Top Singles chart.
  7. This film is from the '40s, a B/W noir with lots of style involving a twist to the plot framing the star of murder . It was the one of 4 films "she" and the director worked on. Name the film, actress and director.
  8. First guess: The Detective Story ?? Pullitzer Prize winner Sidney Kingsley, Ralph Bellamy, Kirk Douglas and Eleanor Parker ??
  9. Ahh, The Lawless Breed w/Rock Hudson and Julie Adams ??
  10. Thanks for your time, Dothery. Right on all accounts. The credit for Lucille Ball's red hair goes to the MGM hair stylist, Your thread.
  11. Whew! Thanks,fi. This musical went from Broadway to Hollywood in the late '30s to early '40s. The lead actress on Broadway was later replaced by a well-known "performer". The movie was cast with new players. The female lead became a superstar and kept the changes to her looks the rest of her life. Who are the 3 women: Original lead, replacement in the musical and the lead actress in the movie?
  12. Well, well, well...it must be Anne Revere? I read on her bio she was considered for Mrs Bailey but lost to Beulah Bondi. She appeared in '51's A Place in The Sun, must have the role she was committed to?
  13. I'm closing in very slooowllly. Next guess is Mary Astor ?? Only connection I found was to Florence Eldrich and Fredric March whom she lived with for a time.
  14. We could go on forever, how about Celeste Holm (she was in All About Eve..could be the role she was committed to) ??
  15. I'll try a different approach. A Place in the Sun came out the same yr so maybe it's Shelly Winters?
  16. Arghhhh! I find no mention of an actress that turned down that movie role. I'll guess Bette Davis since she turned so many roles in her career ??
  17. I haven't been able to get the actresses to fit. Fedric March was married to Florence Eldridge who appeared on stage with him but not in a movie. Lee J Cobb's wife was Helen Beverly with a couple of films to her credit..no connection to Mildred Dunnock (which I kept searching for yesterday). I think I need one of your "books". Wiki isn't complete. So there you have it.
