Chinatown is it. Thank you so much for your help. I think this film's could be classifed as Film Noir or neo-noir. Anyway, I really enjoy it. Making time to watch Chinatown and Sunset Boulevard this week. Just in one of those moods. Strangers on a Train is next in queue.

The main character discovers that his love interest either mothered a child or is a result of an incestus relationship with an overbearing father. Sorry I can't give you more description.

OK, a little bit of a long shot, but here goes. Drama/mystery set in 1950s/early 60s LA and toward the end it is revealed that there has been an incident of incest. I can picture the house in which at least a couple of scenes were filmed.
