If Bette Davis was Mother Goddam, then Marie Dressler was Granny Goddam and paved the way.
Ms. Dressler portrayed women who were strong, outspoken and earthy, but somehow had an undercurrent of softness and gentleness about her.
There is no end to my love of this woman and her films. What an amazing story behind her film career. What a mug. What a bod. Perhaps the last ?real woman? in film. We?ll never see another like her. She was gone too soon.
If I could choose a mother, a grandmother, a sister, an aunt, a best friend?it would be Marie Dressler.
