Looking for full month Canadian Schedule please

Sure you can; - Valentine, you're not Canadian, so you don't get the say-so. I must submit, however, that there is another Canadian hockey team in the play-offs, the Vancouver Canucks. Well, I didn't say "no" because I find sports boring, and the statement was OT. I intended it as humor. I thought that would be obvious, since telling finance not to do something already done is rather silly... -

The left-to-right middle half. With the top 1/4 and bottom 1/4 being masked off in black. Fred, when TCM shows a 1.85:1 LB movie on its SD channel, they are showing us 100% of a movie, but only using 72% of the pixels to do it. When they show us a 2.35:1 LB/SD movie, they are showing us 100% of the movie, but only using 57% of the pixels to do it. TCM does not crop 1.33:1 films to make them wide screen.

I didn't realize that rock and rollers, and hippies, were not allowed to worship Christ. BTW, did you know that Easter is the only day of the year when there is an advantage to having Alzheimer's disease? You can hide your own Easter eggs...

Fred, I think I finally figured what you were going on about selecting between 4x3 and WS on letterboxed standard definition broadcasts. What you are suggesting is that TCM SD send an anamorphic (squeezed) 4x3 picture, just like a DVD, that can either be unsqueezed for a 16x9 screen, or shown as LB, or cropped 4x3, on a 4x3 TV. Actually, I think that's a great idea, but could be problematic, for some. The switching would have to be in the cable, or satellite, box, because no 4x3 TVs would be equipped to do it. Also, there are probably a few systems left where TCM can be viewed without a box. Also, it would confuse a lot of dummies... so it probably won't happen, but it's a good idea. I have wished that ALL SD channels would do that, with WS material. You say that when you zoom over the air broadcasts, they look sharper than zooming cable (or is it sat. you have?) Is the OTA broadcast HD? that would make a big difference. Also OTA broadcasts, even in digital SD, are usually better than cable, or sat. SD, because they are not compressed. As to cropping films made in 4x3 to make them WS, that's just a stupid abomination. Thankfully, it is rarely done. jenerationx, like most here, I want TCM, and other stations, to send films in OAR (original aspect ratio,) even when letterboxing is necessary. I have a 56" DLP HD set. I have Comcast cable, and watch a lot of SD programs, some that need to be zoomed to make a LB picture fill the screen. On my TV, they look quite good, not blurry. And, I sit only 8' away from the screen. There are two factors that determine how good a zoomed picture will look on your TV. First is obviously the quality of the transmission you are receiving. I'm not familiar with satellite, but it is quite possible that the SD decoder box doesn't produce as good a picture, even in SD, as a HD box would. Given that you have a HDTV, you really need to get HD service, hopefully with TCMHD on it, and your picture should be quite good. The other factor is that some HDTVs do a much better job with SD material than others do, and that isn't really directly related to how much you paid for your HDTV. Plasma is notorious for having a lousy SD picture. My DLP TV has a very good SD picture. When you go to the store, they always demo HD pictures to wow you with how good it looks. But, for many of us, much of what we watch is still SD. So, when buying a HDTV, you really need to check out it's SD picture, including what it looks like when zoomed. So, next time...

WAYNE OR EATWOOD, WHO'S THE ULTIMATE WESTERN HERO?
ValentineXavier replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
I'm not a Wayne fan, nor a fan of Clint's spaghetti westerns. But, from their output, and popularity, I'd have to admit that either one is a reasonable pick. But, neither is in any of my favorite westerns, which are: *The Little Big Man* *Blood on the Moon* *One-Eyed Jacks* *The Appaloosa* *The Ox-Bow Incident* *The Westerner* *Destry Rides Again* *Dead Man* -
Mockery on Easter Sunday TCM movies

You did notice that the description of *The Godless Girl* says that atheism leads to disaster, didn't you? From your posts, I would think that you agree with that. -
> {quote:title=sheri10 wrote:}{quote} > Contact your cable provider and complain, they have a lot of pull. Especially when TCM is showing movies on Easter Sunday-hippee movies, or the mockery of JESUS. I don't see anything that could be considered "the mockery of Jesus," I don't think they're showing *The Life of Brian*, i.e. I do see a couple of movies about Jesus that could be called hippie movies. But, Jesus was a hippie, so that's appropriate. I definitely like foreign films, and some silents. many here positively dote on silents.

The wonderful movie"This Earth Is Mine"?
ValentineXavier replied to 80918's topic in Films and Filmmakers
Just to be clear, I wasn't disagreeing with you, but providing evidence to your statements. -
I first saw *King Kong* when I was 8, and it scared me quite a bit. About a year or so later, I saw *The Attack of the Crab Monsters* in a theater. Every time a giant crab appeared, the kid behind me would grab the back of my neck, and squeeze it. That was frightening. As an adult, few scary movies actually scare me. The original *Alien* did - rather well!
-
*This Island Earth* is one of the best SciFi films of its era, deserves to be better known, and more respected. I actually prefer it to *Forbidden Planet*, because I think it's more fun, and less pretentious.

Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du... aspect ratio
ValentineXavier replied to ValentineXavier's topic in Films and Filmmakers
Strange. My setting options for HD inputs consist of "Wide" and "4x3." It was set on wide, which is correct. As I said, other 1.66:1 films have displayed correctly, with the thin bars on the sides. Perhaps there is some way Comcast can screw it up locally. -

ValentineXavier replied to ValentineXavier's topic in Films and Filmmakers
I don't see how it could be a local problem. I had no thin black bars on the sides, but was missing the tops of heads, much of the time. Lots of 1.66:1 films have been shown properly of late, on TCMHD. Are you sure you didn't see it on TCM SD? I have a 56" 720p DLP set. TCM SD looks good, and TCMHD looks better. Sometimes, it looks as good as an anamorphic DVD. No, not HD quality, but pretty decent. I checked, and the library where I work has the Criterion DVD, so I will be borrowing that. -

WAYNE OR EATWOOD, WHO'S THE ULTIMATE WESTERN HERO?
ValentineXavier replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
Well, to me, Eastwood and Wayne were never really heroes in their westerns. My ultimates would be Clayton Moore, Duncan Renaldo, William Boyd, Richard Boone, Chuck Connors. All TV, but all heroes, not some **** off snarly murderers. -
Next two months schedule - where are they?
ValentineXavier replied to tvwesternsfa's topic in General Discussions
Unless you can show me that TCM went to midnight day changes, and then went back to 6am, it it STIll still. Well, I'll have to check the TV guide that comes with my paper. But, up until probably about 5 or six years ago, that was the case with the newspaper TV guide, and a mailed monthly one I used to get. Also, with Comcast, until a guide supplier change a couple of years ago, spring and fall time changes didn't take place until 6am. Fortunately, that changed. -

Ala Lewis Carroll, TCM is celebrating one of his unbirthdays this year.

Not "ONLY," Fred, but still. Yes, that is obviously the reason. Much as I wish they would, I doubt that they will change any time soon. And, if they did, I'd bet that a lot of folks our age would complain.
