  1. Sadly, this is a common problem. I'd bet that sometimes TCM is even given an inaccurate timing for the film. TCM does not supply the running time listed in your on-screen guide. It may be a pain, but your best strategy is to always start a recording at least one minute early, and end it at least five minutes after the end of the slot, or better, 15 minutes. I always check the running time of films on the IMDb, and pad my recording programming if the IMDb lists a longer version that TCM does. That sometimes pays off.
  2. I liked *Conspirator*. I found it to be rather unusual, and good photography.
  3. I like Alec Baldwin, I think he has class, is insightful, is knowledgeable, and clearly loves movies. Also, I agree with both of his comments. Take the comment about Virginia Mayo. Look at some of the best actresses of the 30s and 40s - like Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, and even Jean Arthur. They were not raving beauties. I doubt that they would have a chance in today's movie biz, where, sadly, a woman has to be a knockout just to have a shot at being considered. Edited by: ValentineXavier on Apr 12, 2011 10:18 PM
  4. I like *Suspiria* to. A cult classic that deserves it. I usually watch it around Halloween.
  5. Sorry, I don't know it. Maybe if you could give some more info, it might jog someone's memory.
  6. > {quote:title=oltimetv wrote:}{quote} > I also liked having the next three months schedule available Bring up this month's full schedule. In the web address, change the "4" to a 5 or 6 to get May or June's full month calendar. Why they haven't put back direct links, I don't understand.
  7. Up and down all Sunday evening for me. It occurs to me that this outage probably doesn't have anything to do with revisions in the main site, since I don't think it was ever down.
  8. Agreed. Didn't we have a thread on noir comedies, somewhere? I think only a few were named.
  9. IIRC, said piano player Jose Iturbi appeared in *Holiday in Mexico*, shown on TCM, in Technicolor. As I recall, the main character was a precocious girl who was the US ambassador's daughter in Mexico. He let her plan a big party, and she was able to get Iturbi to play.
  10. Wow! There has been a slight improvement with the new website, after all.

  12. You can actually check for all movies from one year on the IMDb. Since they changed their format, it takes a bit of poking around to find it, and I don't remember exactly where it is.
  13. Trying to reply, for the third time, as site keeps shutting down... Much as I like the original, I like the 1982 *Cat People* quite a lot. Good director, fine cast. Malcolm McDowell is a favorite.
  14. I'd agree about Sayles, and would add Michael Moore, and probably even John Waters. Love 'em, or hate 'em, they are subversive. There were lots of subversive films in the 30s, many from WB. *The Grapes of Wrath*, *I Was a Fugitive from a Chain Gang*, *Wild Boys of the Road*. You get the idea. The 60s had lots of subversive films, from Corman films like *The Trip*, to Lindsay Anderson films like *If* and *O, Lucky Man*.

  17. In another thread, someone posted links to the monthly schedules, so they still exist. Just putting links on the TCM home page would be a big step in the right direction, and hardly seems like too much to ask.
  18. > {quote:title=nan10 wrote:}{quote} > I do miss the old TCM website a lot, but I dont believe they will bring it back,it would have been nice because I felt it was fine just the way it was, but things change I guess..nan10 Make the whole website the way it was? No. Restore the monthly schedules to their previous ease of use, and with buttons to get to them, yes. I think they could and should do that.
  19. No, not possible. There were some recent changes to the site, especially the schedules, and they aren't operating as they once did, so it's hard to find much, at least not easily. Changes are still in progress.
  20. > {quote:title=misswonderly wrote:}{quote} > willbefree, I'm not clear if you'[re agreeing with ValentineX or not. He seems to think you're sarcastically insinuating that he's too opinionated and close-minded about colourizing classic b &w movies, but it sounded to me as though you're just emphatically seconding his point. Which is it? > You are quite right, Miss W. It could be interpreted both ways, and I did not see that. Willbefree, if I misunderstood you, I apologize.
