I love it too, and would put it in Welles' top five. It does remind me a bit of *The Mask of Dimitrios* though.

    > ValentineX, I'm glad you do! I am not to sure with Comcast and other cable companies but I am glad you have Encore Mystery channel. Do yourself a favor and keep a look out on their schedule, or even download it monthly from the website. Why? Because they show the same film over and over again but then they slip in a classic that is rare and only play it once in the month. Some months they play the Sherlock Holmes PD films, TOUCH OF EVIL and CAPE FEAR (1962) quite a few times and they slip in something rare. I once caught MY GUN IS QUICK (1957) and never saw it again. If Encore channels have access to the Paramounts of the 40s, I guess I should try and shoot them an email with a list of some other films I'd like to see.

A few years back, when I learned I would be getting Encore Mystery, I thought it would be composed mostly of 40's whodunits, and I would get to see lots of rare B films. Sad to say, it is mostly recent films, and many aren't even mysteries. But, that said, as you pointed out, they do sometimes show some good films. Once every day, I go through the program guide, channel by channel of those I am interested in, and program my DVRs. Encore Mystery is one I always check, along with Encore Drama, Western, and HD. I believe I caught *My Gun Is Quick*, and now have it on DVD.

When I was a kid, I hated her. Such a goody-goody! A traitor to kids everywhere, always sucking up to the adults... :)

  4. Well, I'll agree that Dane should have hit the cop with something harder than an ottoman, to make the death plausible. But, at that point, it still looked like Dane was sincere about being reformed, and they wanted to make the death look unlikely, unexpected, and unintentional. To me, the biggest problem is the title, which is, as it turns out, a massive spoiler!

Yes, it was *Battle Beneath The Earth*. Why did I think it was a Japanese film?

Craig's film is on DVD, is listed on the IMDb, and perhaps Netflix has it, I don't know. You can buy it directly from him at www.othercinema.com, along with lots of other strange films, including Experiments in Terror, and the infamous Sins of the Fleshapoids. *Tribulation 99* is what is called a "found footage" film, made by stitching together clips from old sci fi films, industrial films, what have you. It is frenetic, and funny. It has won awards at film festivals.

    > The scene where the guy follows the girl home from the store and gets killed was beyond cornball.

I thought that was quite plausible. Pushy drunk cop, a would-be ladies' man, follows her home, thinks he can get away with forcing himself on her. Her hubby hears it from the other room, takes him on, and he is killed in the process. Not an everyday occurrence, but common enough human behavior. I thought it was a reasonably good film.

  7. Sounds like a great exhibition!

I have seen *L'Atalante* a few times. It is a magical film. Too bad Jean Vigo, its director, died at such a young age.

I've seen *Un Chien Andalou* many times. It is probably the best known surrealist film, or experimental film, there is. Some friends of mine showed it at their wedding, in a dark room with just a few colored lights, and a smoke generator keeping the whole room, and dance floor, covered almost to the knees with fog!

I've seen many of Jean Renoir's wonderful films, but haven't seen *The Little Match Girl*. I see that it is on a 3 DVD collection of his work, from Amazon.

Sad, but understandable, given the inquisition Fred is running in that other thread, constantly accusing people of supporting communists, and/or Stalin. I gave up posting in that one. Paranoia is not subject to logic.

Back OT, I don't recall the name, but there was an awful Japanese scifi film, from the 60s, or 70s, that had the Red Chinese digging a hole through the Earth, to invade the USA.

My all-time favorite movie about communists is Craig Baldwin's 1992 satire *Tribulation 99: Alien Anomalies Under America*. We find out that the commies are actually aliens who came to Earth from their destroyed planet, and are doing all sorts of nasty things to us. Only the CIA can save us. But, the reason the CIA's assassination attempts against Castro never worked were because you can't kill what isn't alive - he is an alien android!

That would be Two and a half Brides for Three and a half Brothers. I agree, it it awful!

I'm guessing you meant superb, not "suburb," but typo, Freudian slip, what ever... I think "suburb" is most accurate!

    > Lol, ok, ok. I confess. If I have somehow missed it, and if I havent seen it much, then it is rarely seen. :)

I'm gonna back Fred up just a bit on this one. *Gun Crazy* was rarely seen, until about a year ago. I'd wanted to see it for years, and it was NEVER shown on cable, anywhere I could find. So, I bought the DVD. But, TCM has shown it several times in the last year.

    > I hardly ever post here, and the few times I have, I have only gotten positive feedback just once, every other time, someone is trying to be a joker in the first follow up post, and then the thread becomes a private joke of the posters and then the main topic is not addressed and I don't get my answer I came for.

    >

    > and I did spell El Dorado correctly and I am being respectful to the movies, it is someone is not respectful to me.

Look, when people are making jokes, it usually means they don't have a straight answer to the question, and/or they don't think the question is of great import. Probably both apply here. I didn't mean to be disrespectful, just a bit humorous.

If you will check your first post, you spelled it "El Doredo," which sounds like "Dorito," thus engendering the first joke. Everyone makes typos, so making a joke of it doesn't mean anyone thinks you are dumb, it just means that some of us like to kid, and make jokes. Probably if anyone who read your post knew the answer, they would have said so. So, please. don't feel personally insulted.
