Movies You Never Get Sick Of
ValentineXavier replied to RooseveltSteinway's topic in General Discussions
Well, I'm not gonna make a list that long, I'm too lazy. But, here are a few: *O, Lucky Man* *If* *Juliet of the Spirits* Cocteau's *Orpheus* *Touch of Evil* *Sanjuro* *Ugetsu* *Mulholland Drive* *The Big Sleep* *Help!* -
*The Magic Christian*, with Ringo and Peter Sellers is great fun. *The Ruling Class*, *Help*, and *The Bed-Sitting Room* are all pretty wacky fun. Danny Kaye movies, like *Court Jester* and *Wonder Man* are pretty wacky.

Okay, I'll admit that it's preachy, and a bit over-wrought, but I, and the friend who watched it with me, enjoyed it. It had some strange twists. Bette's refusal to fight for her convictions, because she didn't want her friends to face the backlash, if they helped her, was good. Brian Keith made a great sleazy politician. I don't even think the boy flipping out was that far fetched. Sure, most kids wouldn't react that way, but they offered enough specifics about him and his family situation to make it plausible. I was disappointed that TCM didn't list it as letterboxed in the month schedule, and the IMDb listed its OAR as 1.37:1, so I didn't record it on TCMHD. It was actually 1.85:1, and TCM letterboxed it.

Check out Brit Ekland's dance in The Wicker Man. That just might change your mind. I'd give Catherine Deneuve a close second... well, not her in Repulsion.

Why is the script being read over the movie????

Anyone else noticed morals slipping on TCM ?
ValentineXavier replied to goodoldays34's topic in General Discussions
Sorry, but if you think a woman sitting in a bathtub, nude from the waist up is "filth," you'd better set a parental block on everything but The Hallmark Channel. And, I'm not so sure about it. -
Film noir runneth over on the schedule lately
ValentineXavier replied to LoveFilmNoir's topic in Film Noir--Gangster
I haven't seen it yet, but *Colorado Territory* is supposed to be a western noir, a loose remake of *High Sierra*. -
The World of Alfred Hitchcock

> {quote:title=Hibi wrote:}{quote}Yes, I saw some of the Hitchcock Hours yesterday. They werent some of the better ones. I think the show was better in the half hour format......... They seem to have started at the beginning, and are showing them in order. I'm hoping we get to see all three seasons of the hour show. I like the half-hour show too, but I think the hour long shows hold up. They mostly have great casts, and good directors. Of course, some are better than others. And, Hitch's wrap-arounds are always a treat. -
Did You Miss "Tension" (1950) ?
ValentineXavier replied to Ascotrudgeracer's topic in General Discussions
Yep, *Tension* is a really good noir. TCM seems to show it a couple of times a year. So, those that missed all, or part - keep your eyes on the schedule. -
MIssW, sorry you didn't like *Detour*, which is one of my favorite noirs. Yes, it's depressing, but I find it far less depressing than *Out of the Past*, (another favorite.) At least Al survives. Vera is as mean as a snake, and has no redeeming qualities. I find that unique enough to be interesting. As JR points out, Al is a decent, ordinary guy, who made a bad decision, and had lots of bad luck. Maybe it's a guy thing, but to me, part of the enjoyment is thinking I've been lucky that nothing like that has ever happened to me. And I used to hitchhike a lot too, back in the 60s and 70s. Lots of weirdness, a few scares, but nothing like that!

> {quote:title=JefCostello wrote:}{quote}I've seen the Wicker Man and have always thought Britt Ekland looks a little like Bardot. Don't know why that would change my mind according to you. > > Bardot might be the greatest thing I've ever seen watching movies. Directors would spend the entire film ogling over her and giving constant close ups of her face and body. And she had a tremendous screen presence that can't just be explained by looks or acting ability. She needs to be shown more on TCM. > > > She also had a huge influence on fashion. More so than anyone imo, outside of Audrey Hepburn. > I agree that Ekland looks something like Bardot. The original question was who was the sexiest blonde, not who was most influential, or who had the best career. To me, Britt, as Willow, trying to seduce Sergeant Howie with her song and dance, through a wall, is sexier than any scene I've seen Bardot in. That's why I thought seeing *The Wicker Man* might change your mind. But, it is of course, a matter of personal taste, not an objective judgment.

Amelie Ducotel Basil Rathbone ... Andre Trochard Leo G. Carroll ... Felix Ducotel John Baer ... Paul Trochard Gloria Talbott ... Isabelle Ducotel Lea Penman ... Mme. Parole John Smith ... Medical Officer Arnaud And, I'd like to see the 1948 Max Fleischer cartoon *Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer*. Edited by: ValentineXavier on Oct 31, 2011 9:17 PM -

Yeah. They should show *House of the Seven Grables*.

They look an awful lot alike to me - at least sisters, or twins.

It looks the same as the spellcheck I see when sending an email. I guess it just doesn't work in "Rich Text." Sorry for the misinformation. -

Fred, there is another film, that looks a lot like *Jeremiah Johnson*, where a guy is left for dead after being attacked by a bear, IIRC. His companions leave him to die. He tracks them down and kills them. I can't remember the name, or any of the actors at the moment.

The World of Alfred Hitchcock
ValentineXavier replied to MissGoddess's topic in Films and Filmmakers
HItch lovers take note - Encore Suspense is showing 12 hour long Alfred Hitchcock Hour eps in a row, starting at noon tomorrow, Monday, running until midnight. No commercials, and I think, uncut. If you have Comcast, the channel may be 153. Edited by: ValentineXavier on Oct 30, 2011 10:38 PM
