Why is the script being read over the movie????
ValentineXavier replied to Michael03a3's topic in General Discussions
MIchael, besides in your TV, if you have cable, with a cable box, it can be turned on there. Also, there have been many cases in the past where local Comcast Cable head-ends have inadvertently turned it on, so it can't be turned off at your house. If you know someone else with the same cable service you have, call them the next time you hear the Descriptive Video Service, and ask them to turn on the same channel, and see if they hear it. If they do, it is almost certainly the fault of your cable company. -

We have a retail chain here called Meijer's Thrifty Acres, that has it all - food, clothing, hardware, housewares, electronics, etc. Right now, I can find things there pretty easily. But, they change things regularly, and then I can't. That's why we call it Meijer's Shifty Acres. -
I saw plenty of guys like him on my bike tour, mostly on the road from Tulum to Coba, and then north. They often rode bicycles, with a burlap bag strapped on the back to hold game, and a machete hanging on their side. While hiking the couple of miles from the main ruins at Chichen to "Chichen Vieja," we came upon a couple of Maya hunters hunting tepesquintle (a variety of paca) with a zip gun! They asked us to not talk, while hiking to the Temple of the Three Lintels. They didn't want us to scare the tepesquintle.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters' trivia erroneous

> {quote:title=TikiSoo wrote:}{quote} > > Anyway, I truly love Godzilla but don't know why. I have several Godzilla t-shirts (my friend made a silk screen) and have several Godzilla figures in my home. My favorite is the 1.5" one on my computer monitor. > Teeny Gojira" You can't keep a good lizard down, I always say! I have a plastic model of Godzilla in my main bathroom. Probably just a coincidence, but the phonetic equivalent of "Gojira," in Spanish - guajira - means gypsy, or peasant. It's also an Indian tribe that lives on the Colombia-Venezuela border. -

Fred, I get Spellcheck when posting in "Plain Text," but not when posting in "Rich Text." In fact, it is telling me that "Spellcheck" is misspelled. -
> {quote:title=cigarjoe wrote:}{quote} > *Undercurrent* (1946) Director Vincente Minnelli. With Katharine Hepburn, Robert Taylor, Robert Mitchum, Edmund Gwenn, Marjorie Main, Jayne Meadows, Clinton Sundberg. Terrible Noir of exactly the type I really don't like upper crust/high society on recycled a million time sets. Overly melodramatic story of newly married Hepburn, whose husband (Taylor) is bitterly estranged from his brother (Mitchum). My wife even though the actors were miscast, avoid if you can 1/10 Granted, there are much better noirs, but I think it's decent enough that I have watched it several times, and looked forward to seeing it again, when I hadn't seen it for a few years. As one might expect, I enjoy Mitchum the most. But, it is one of the few films where I can stand Kate Hepburn. Taylor does a decent job, but if Robert Ryan had played his part, we might be looking at a classic.

If someone knows him, please email him, and find out if he's okay. I'm sure many of us miss him. -
Does Cameron's "TITANIC" go down as classic?

Also, water that had leaked into the ship would be warmed by the ship. Sure, it would still be cold, but not as cold as the open ocean. If it was deep in the interior of the ship, it would be warmer than if it was in the first room it leaked into, that is the rooms directly on the hull. -
Absolutely NO competition for all the TCM films I have saved to watch. I'm thinking I may do a day of film noir, punctuated by Betty Boop, and Popeye.

What was turner classic movies like back in the day
ValentineXavier replied to aged-in-wood's topic in General Discussions
> {quote:title=EugeniaH wrote:}{quote}...and back then, we actually had to STAND UP AND WALK TO THE TV to change the channel! Imagine!! I installed a remote OFF switch for the speaker, placed by where I sat watching. That way, I could mute the commercials, before remote controls. Another trick I did was to tune the audio for VHF channel 6 on the FM of my audio receiver (extreme left of dial.) Channel 6 was CBS, so I could listen to the audio from their movies on my stereo system, while watching the TV. This was before VCRs and AV systems. -
She looks tasty to this bear... I bike toured the Yucatan Peninsula four times. One time, doing 120 miles of loaded touring in one day, we were still on the road, in the jungle, well past dark. I swear I saw glowing eyes along side the road. On the other hand, people who go there trying to spot jaguars are rarely successful.

Dark Side Of The Moon / Wizard Of Oz

I've heard about the *DSotM* and *TWoZ* synch-up, and I wish TCM would do it again! On a similar subject, the theme song from Gilligan's Island's lyrics can be sung to the tune of Amazing Grace, and Amazing Grace's lyrics can be sung to the Gilligan song's tune. -
Bob Shreves Late Night Movies !!!!
ValentineXavier replied to WhyaDuck's topic in General Discussions
That gave me what I think would be a great idea for TCM - a series of films introduced by guest hosts (and RO) who were/are regional movie hosts. Ron Swede aka the Ghoul, Joe Bob Briggs, your man Bob S., if he's still alive, a bunch of different hosts, from around the country, showing their faves from the golden days of TV movie hosts. -
Another Question About Casablanca

That's my take. Victor was going to the US to be debriefed - deliver info to the Allies - rest and recuperate safely, then recruit and organize to return to the fight. I think that was standard in the day. -
any actors or actresses who were exactly your type?

Based on on-screen personality, the women I would most like to have had a relationship with are Myrna Loy, Ella Raines, and Gloria Grahame. -
Charlie looks like he could play The Mummy, w/o makeup... BTW, when I was last in the hospital, we had candy stripers, but we had to strip our own candy...

Problems with the Upgrade

They wouldn't do that. They'd just flag him/her, so that all search results came up *North by Northwest*. I agree there are still old problems, and some new ones. But, there are also improvements. I like the auto save-to-draft feature. -
Anyone have the link to Full Dec. schedule?
ValentineXavier replied to PattiTexas's topic in Information, Please!
As soon as it is available, the link below will work, and NOT say "Zombies ate this page." http://www.tcm.com/schedule/monthly.html?sdate=2011-12-01 For right now, you can get ALL the days of December, using the daily link: http://www.tcm.com/schedule/index.html?tz=est&sdate=2011-12-01 Note that when you bring up the day selector for the whole month, the last days are dark, and you cannot select them directly. But, you can get them by starting with the last accessible day, and clicking "Next Day," until you get through them all. -

The cultural, economic, & sociological ramifications of which we haven't even begun to consider. I would flip that around, and say that people are isolated from everyone, except those they chose NOT to be isolated from. That's even worse.

I haven't seen those either, but *The Tingler* is certainly one of his best, and you don't like it. You just don't like gimmicky showmanship on a low budget, which is certainly your right. But some, like me, do like that, at least at times.

> {quote:title=JonnyGeetar wrote:}{quote} >All your answers are possible, The film's ending is open to interpretation: see it how you want to see it. > > Ooogie boogie boogie! We agree on that one, JG. That's why I compared the film to *Jacob's Ladder* and *Donnie Darko*. They present the same conundrum. Frankly, I'm not sure there is, or is supposed to be, a logical, rational, answer.

Remember The Firesign Theatre? Those guys knew how to mix. MoFi put out some of their albums on CD a few years back. I never had such energy, charging up hills, really feeling the wind, Sun, and Earth... Although I was, and am, a fan of The Who, and Pink Floyd, I preferred mellower music while tripping. Canned Heat, the Byrds, Bob Dylan, The Moody Blues, the Beatles.
