What about Lionel Barrymore?

Jean Arthur

The Out-of-Towners. Jack Lemmon and Sandy Dennis.

What about Marie Dressler? She was fantastic.

That's funny!

I think Paul Newman was the underrated actor of our time. He had it all. I forgot James Cagney, especially his performance in Yankee Doodle Dandy. My favorite movie of all time. And Burt Lancaster for sure. He was so intense in everything. Anybody ever see Come Back, Little Sheba? His performance was phenomenal. Nobody mentioned Kirk Douglas. (But John Wayne???)

That was going to be next, but I agree with you about Katherine Hepburn.

Well, my top five are Charles Laughton, Robert DeNiro, Dustin Hoffman, Paul Muni ...and the Oscar goes to Spencer Tracy. He made it look so easy. An honorary mention for Paul Newman.

This has probably been asked a thousand times, but I'm new to the Board and I'm curious who peole think was the best actor of the 20th century. The Charles Laughton thread got me thinking. (He would be in my top 5)

You're right. At least I spelled her name right.

One of her best performances was in an episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." It was a much more toned-down Jayne and she did a very respectable acting job. Has anyone but me seen this episode?

A POLL ON YOUR A #1 FAV. THRILLER/HORROR PICTURE???
Sandra636 replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
For Horror, it has to be the one and only FRANKENSTEIN. A close second is the Bela Lugosi DRACULA. Still the scariest movies of all time. For Thriller, both CAPE FEARs and WHEN A STRANGER CALLS. Can't watch that movie ever again. ("Have you checked the children?") -
What is your favorite one word movie title?

MISERY. Good movie but it's hard to watch.
