I can see both sides of this but to say not knowing they were Healy's Stooges causes the name "The Three Stooges" to make no sense, is rediculous. Entire generations have grown up only knowing the name "The Three Stooges". Ted Healy certainly had his hand in getting them noticed and on the circuit to where they were known well enough and praised enough for Fox to make the offer.
I do realize you have to be someone's stooge in the literal sense. SO the Three Stooges were so because they were UNDER Ted Healy. BUt without Ted Healy...then what? Well..from what I have seen, any situation they were in they became the stooges of anyone they met...be it wives, shop owners, bosses, or anyone else they played the subordinate role to. IN all cases at least two played "stooge" to MOE...but guarnteed MOE would play "stooge" to someone else.
Personally , I like the old Ted Healy features..havent seen very many of them...but I like em.
Bottom line "The Three Stooges" will always remain as such...just as Hal Roach's "Rascals" do.
