  1. You enter this area like a mine field with all the sterotypes etc. But I would advise you to check out Minnelli's *Cabin in the Sky*--it's probably the best of that sort of thing.

     

    *Carmen* is an interesting concept.

     

    And of course, *Porgy & Bess* is an Opera--not to be taken all that seriously. But it's top-heavy with stero-types. However, the music is divine.

  2. Mr. 6, I cannot deny that that close-up was the first one they showed in film class.

     

    However, the popularization and artistic development of the close-up has always been attributed to

    Billy Bitzer, DW Griffith's cameraman, in films like *Orphans of the Storm*91921) and *Broken Blossoms*(1919) starring Lillian Gish.
