I saw it last night. I've studied French cinema--but really knew nothing about her. It was simply interesting for the diversity of subjects. She was right in the thick of the American Racial and Vietnam violence. That surprised me.

Mr. 6, I cannot deny that that close-up was the first one they showed in film class.
However, the popularization and artistic development of the close-up has always been attributed to
Billy Bitzer, DW Griffith's cameraman, in films like *Orphans of the Storm*91921) and *Broken Blossoms*(1919) starring Lillian Gish.
Since I'm not the Movie Professor--I won't argue with you--
Mr. 6 its all yours!

You know, I don't know as much about London--but didn't Hitch film a lot there--before Hollywood.
Certainly--*Sabotage*, *39 Steps*, *The Man Who etc*--and later *Stagefright* and *Frenzy*.

AFRICAN AMERICAN musicals

You enter this area like a mine field with all the sterotypes etc. But I would advise you to check out Minnelli's *Cabin in the Sky*--it's probably the best of that sort of thing.
*Carmen* is an interesting concept.
And of course, *Porgy & Bess* is an Opera--not to be taken all that seriously. But it's top-heavy with stero-types. However, the music is divine.
