  1. That's not what I heard about the head of MGM--Mr. Louis B Mayer. One man's poison etc.
  2. Tiki--I've always harbored a thorough distaste for Charles Boyer. I can't tell you why except his acting seems so phony and pompous to me. Between Boyer and Robin Williams maybe we should start another thread?
  3. Famous comedian starring in a dramatic role? Jackie Gleason--"Requiem" Jerry Lewis--"King" Mary Tyler Moore--"Ordinary" Alan King----"Night"
  4. Eleanor Powell performed "Button Up Your Overcoat" on Broadway in "Follow Thru" in 1929. Ellie is famous for The Broadway Melody Movies of 1936, 1938 & 1940. In these films, she introduced the Freed-Brown classics:"You Are My Lucky Star" and "Broadway Rhythm"-- Gotta, Dance, Gotta Dance-- also she re-introduced "The Broadway Melody". Gene Kelly performed all the Freed-Brown classics in The Broadway Melody of 1952 which they called "Singin' In the Rain". Ellie also introduced Cole Porter's "Rosalie" (sung by Nelson Eddy) in Rosalie and "Swing' the Jinx Away" and "Rap-Tap On Wood" in "Born to Dance". I don't know anything about Ruth Etting. Do you have the show and date for her? Edited by: cujas on Apr 27, 2011 7:09 PM Edited by: cujas on Apr 27, 2011 7:18 PM
  5. A tale of two brothers. The younger brother excelled in all show biz mediums--TV, Concert Stage, Movies and Radio. The older brother did TV and some movies. But ironically, the one big film that the oldert brother appeared in was the 2nd top grossing film of 1958 and was based on a novel that is the 4th biggest seller in the United States. Can you name both brothers and the older one's very successful film credit?
  6. Pat Neal sizzled in "The Fountainhead" with Gary Cooper.
  7. Maureen O'Hara was in "The Black Swan" with matinee idol Tyrone Power.
  8. Warren co-starred with Natalie Wood in "Splendor in the Grass".
  9. According to my sources--Minnelli was replaced because his wife didn't want to work with him. In his book"I Remember It Well", he wrote that he found out he had been dumped from "Easter Parade" at the studio--eventhough he was married with and living with Judy at the time. Cyd was replaced by Ann Miller. But ironically a husband of Ann's at the time at beaten her and she had to perform, in much pain, in a back brace. Gene's story is he kicked his back door to make his entourage stop playing football. He broke his ankle. But legend has it that LB Mayer always thought he had been rehearsing and had an accident. So Charles Walters directed "Easter Parade". Freed replaced Kelly with Astaire. And Ann Miller replaced Cyd. I don't think Judy was the only original principal not recast.
  10. The Last Metro takes place in Paris-- This film is a country village--a lot of the action takes place in a bar. The local school master uses the bar for class because the school has been destroyed by WWII bombing.
  11. My answer isn't silly or stupid. I would suggest, however, in the future that you write your original question so that one knows exactly what it is you want. Adding on to it later isn't quite kosher.
  12. This director/choreographer is credited with modernizing the chorus line on Broadway. Teaching dance to a Golden Era Musical Star. Discovering A Golden Era Musical Star. He studied with a Boshoi master and choreographed for both Kelly and Astaire. Liza said he even directed movies with his feet. Do you know him?
  13. I've answered the question. As of today, I'm retired from reading your mind.
  14. Gene was directed by Vicente Minnelli in "The Pirate".
  15. I declare this thread is open to any and all comers.
  16. Bingo, Lana!--That's very good. I just saw "Return to Peyton Place" yesterday. It was ok--Sterling was his handsome self--but the movie really missed your Lana. Our Lana is up--
  17. Lena sang *The Lady Is A Tramp* in "Words & Music", in which Judy Garland also appeared.
  18. The biggest number in The Beach Boys Live Concert album in '64 was Denny singing "The Wanderer". Do you remember this record?
