  1. Small-town girl is determined to succeed by using town connections. Her family is fatherless and people in the small town feel sorry for them. Well-to do mother talks with her mother to help. Because the well-to-do mother has a son who is a Broadway producer.

Repeat hint: girl wants to act--but her real talent is singing.

  2. This girl gets to Broadway because of her small town connection. Her family come from the same town as a bigshot producer. Her mother talks to his mother etc.

    Hint: emphasis on the Song--singer

  3. I was a fairly popular young actress in the '50's. I co-starred with Robert Wagner. I even danced with Fred Astaire. But my real fame lies in my liasion with a Hollywood Legend, who was not an actor or performer.

  4. I'm so glad you mentioned Vincent D'Onofrio. I just love him. I can't stand "Law & Order" type shows--but I never miss him. You really know an actor is great when he rises above the material.

Now on the other hand, I can barely tolerate the girl opposite him--but with him in the frame, she's barely noticeable.

  5. I must have read the same book as you.

This actor had a hard time getting started because no one would take him seriously. People thought he had too much money and social status to really want a serious acting career.

  6. Off the top of my head--I would have said a big star like coop or Fred MacMurray--

But my research leads me to a man who, I thought belonged to Kay Francis and BD, but Stanwyck had him 5 times.

George Brent is a much underrated actor, screen presence and sexy man. That says it all.

  7. Shirley was great because her teacher was the Greatest Tap Dancer of All-Time:

Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Throughout her life, they had a close relationship. He was like a real uncle to her. Bo had a very similar, but mature relationship with the world's 2nd greatest tap dancer, Eleanor Powell.

  8. Cinerama --you win the Cujas for today--This guy is simply off everybody's radar screen.

Of Course the movie was Capra's "Plantinum Blonde"-1931.

Hope to play with you alot in the future.

  9. The only person I know about is the Louis Jordan issue in the *Paradine Case*--Hitch wanted Robert Newton. But that wasn't a leading man role--Of course he didn't want Peck either, but don't remember who he preferred.
