  1. You will note that in the Marx Bros movies--the black people were in a stereo-typical musical situation--like a segregated chorus for the purpose of exploiting black culture. In the Kelly movie, the Nicholas Bros left the sterotype because they were performing as equals in a number--not associated with black culture-- with one white man.
  2. The actor playing the business tycoon in this movie was one of the biggest stars of the silent era. With all the clues--can you name this pre-code movie?
  3. Miles--in the 40's Karloff made a several films, including the one you mentioned, which were a take-off on the one featuring the heart pump. Hint: the movie that had the heart pump with the Frankenstein--coming back from the dead-conception was filmed in the 30's. Boris looked like The Monster in this film with very little make-up.
  4. I read that from a critique of Karloff's work and apparently the critic believed that Karloff's contributions and innovations in the Horror genre was similiar to those of Astaire's in the musical. Edited by: cujas on Feb 9, 2011 1:21 PM
  5. Hint #2--Judy co-stars with Mickey & Anne co-stars with Bela Edited by: cujas on Feb 7, 2011 2:17 PM
  6. Reportedly one of the reasons that *The Pirate* did so badly in revenue, and was considered a flop, was, in part, caused by The Nicholas Bros routine with Kelly. The routine had to be cut in southern theatres or the film had to be boycotted. With the public not buying these "different images" of Judy and Gene + the controversial routine of a white man dancing with 2 black men--well that didn't help revenues.
  7. Patty Duke, aka "The Queen of the TV Movie-Miniseries Some memorable TV Movies with top stars were: "My Sweet Charlie"--Al Freeman, Jr. "A Matter of Justice"--Martin Sheen "The Miracle Worker"--Melissa Gilbert "A Family Upside Down"--Helen Hayes & Fred Astaire
  8. Richard Egan was in *A Summer Place* with Sandra Dee.
  9. Back to the plot--the star, a millionaire Wall Street Whiz Bang, is wiped out by the crash.
  10. It's Boris all right--in a film that mirrors his classic *Frankenstein* + Lindbergh's Artificial Heart.
  11. Luis Bunuel--*Cet obscur objet du desir*?? Edited by: cujas on Feb 5, 2011 4:14 PM
  12. Dietrich was in *Witness for the Prosecution* with Tyrone Power.
  13. No--but the director transitioned into the talkies and had great success and worked up into the 1950's.
  14. You're too marvelous for words-- How do you do it? Now, It's all about Mr. 6--
  15. La Nouvelle Vague--one of its top directors and auteurs.
  16. Lionel Atwell may have played the "Master of Crime", Moriarty--but he certainly would never be considered "The Fred Astaire of the Horror Movie", would he?
  17. What I enjoy most are the expressions on Maggie Smith's face--I think she would have been a marvel in silent films. Also, the casting is subperb--but the British have so many well-trained, experienced actors to draw on because of their government supported acting schools.
  18. Julie Harris was in *East of Eden* with James Dean.
  19. Exactly where do you want to move to? The star of this film 1930 film, also starred in a silent film with the same title. He was an Iconic Mega Silent Movie Star trying to break into the talkies.
  20. This old time Silent Star was one of the founders of the Oscar, a radio show host and TV actor. Though he made many talkies, he never regain his star status in sound. Not a household name today, but best remembered as a silent leading man with a solid romantic image. Can you name him?
