I don't know if this is what you want--but Novak's hair is styled differently from the portrait. Carlotta has what the French call a chignon or bun at the top of the neck. While Novak wears, and she did in other movies too, more of what we Americans called a French Roll, hair pulled back and twisted in an oblong fashion along the back of the head. I noticed the difference because we wore the bun like the portrait in ballet class.

'The Battle of New Orleans' is one of the greatest country hits of all time. Johnny Horton won a Grammy for it. The part I like best is where the "gator lost his mind". They don't write them like that anymore.

I watched the 100rd episode last night--your reference may be the biggest laugh.

No, I was a bigger star than John Saxon. I even had a hit record.

Carmen Vargas was her maid--is that who you're thinking of?

Let's move along with a new question-- These British actors came to Broadway and had a hit play: Leslie Banks, Nigel Bruce and Frieda Inescort. Can you name the play and their one American co-star. Of course, all three also became prominent in film. For brownie points, what was Leslie Banks' greatest cinematic achievement? Edited by: cujas on Jan 27, 2011 5:23 PM

The Paul Newman - Tennessee Williams Rumor
cujas replied to Ascotrudgeracer's topic in General Discussions
This is a Jack Cassidy thing, not a Paul Newman thing. -
I studied in France and was taught to keep my hands in sight on the table or holding the silverware at all times. I was told, one is suspect if his/her hand(s) disappear during the meal. Growing up in the Midwest, my mother taught me, not to put my hands and elbows on the table during a meal, I became confused. So, now I eat with my hands in constant motion, up and down, so as not to offend anyone.

Hint #1--I still made some "A" movies in the '60's, but my Movie Star heyday was the '50's. I was somewhat of a "teen idol".

No, this movie appeared before Kate Hepburn came to Hollywood. The valet in the movie is famous for supporting the top movie stars--but he doesn't usually play servants. He usually plays professors, lawyers or imparsarios and became a famous part of a classic series of musicals.

Right again! Fi's up--

Esther was in *Take Me Out To the Ballgame* with Gene Kelly.

I had the kind of looks that gave me the opportunity to play a number of ethnicities. I started as an actor on Broadway and went on to be a Hollywood star in the '50's. Although I appeared in "A" movies, I had a big success in a Disney family movie. Do You Know Me?
