  1. CMVGOR--fyi Marcel Pagnol was a famous film director, playwright and novelist--A member of the Academie Francaise. He based "L'Eau des Collines" on true stories told to him by provencals during his childhood in the Garlaban. Mudskipper is up--
  2. The day that Vernon met Irene they were at a place of amusement and a male quartet was singing. The first song was before Vernon saw Irene and a second song just as the met. You can give us either or both songs--they're what Grandma used to call old favorites.

  7. As long as they don't get a Greer Garson look-alike in "Downton Abbey", I'll continue to watch it. The roses interlude was brief and not worth your worry--Maggie Smith is giving a performance in this mini-series truly befitting an Academy Award winning actress.
  8. I saw one of Ozu's silent films at a Paris Film Festival. It was a gangster film called "Hoodlums and Girls" from 1933. It was a classic along the lines of any fine WB film like "The Roaring 20's". The main character was a Cagney-type who danced jazzy and had 2 girls: 1 very good and 1 not so. Seeing an Ozu film like this one gives you a perspective about his ability and versatility.
  9. I have a dvd of him on "Mister Ed". I'm disappointed that he died; I thought he'd live to at least 125.
  10. The dog's movie was a hybrid--and so was the dog--a horror-musical.

  16. Gregory Ratoff played the Count in *The Sun Also Rises* with Ava Gardner.
  17. Yes Lavender--and it was my favorite Andy Williams song on the album, "The Days of Wine & Roses". Andy knew the song because that's him singing in "A Date With Judy"--not Eliot Ness. All yours LavenderBlue--
