{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}My choices:{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}1) On the Waterfront{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}2) Gunfight at the OK Corral{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}3) All the King's Men{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}4) Singin in the Rain{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}I can hear the whines that these have all been shown to death but these are the ones that poped into my head. I love every one of them and never tire of watching them. You asked!{font}

{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}Thank you, casablancalover, for letting me be 21 again. I've just spent an hour listening to the Momkees song and clicking other favorites from that time I've not heard in ages. In a few minutes I'm off to Merry Old England for an hour with *The Tudors*. I feel like Sam from *Quantum Leap.*{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}I'm only two months older than Davy was; this makes you stop and think. RIP and thank you, Mr. Jones. {font}

Did anybody besides me first think that was Meryl Streep, not Irene Dunne, before reading the caption? Now that I've looked at it closer I see that it's not but the resemblance, and the fact they are both brilliant actresses, is uncanny.

{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Times New Roman}Movieman: If you can get MeTV, *Will Sonnett* is on Saturday morning or just at noon. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Times New Roman}Terrence1: I agree with you about *The Big Valley*. It was far superior to *Bonanza* even if it didn’t last as long. It’s also on MeTV during the week and I catch it when I can. You really believed these people were a family. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Times New Roman}Stagecoach: Anybody who likes *26 Men* and *Stories of the Century*, as well as remembers *Steve Donovan *is okay with me. I’m probably going to order the whole *Century* series from Movies Unlimited as soon as I can. I have ten episodes on a disc with some early *Lone Rangers* and want them all. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Times New Roman}They have *26 Men* and some *Wells Fargos* available also. I spent one evening checking the catalogue for all the series they had for order and it was like being in a time warp. There were shows I had forgotten or had no idea you’d be able to get. The memories came pouring back. It’s worth the ten bucks just for that.{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Times New Roman}The only one of my favorites I didn’t see any of you folks list was *Black Saddle* with Peter Breck and Russell Johnson. This was 1960-61. Yippee, you all! {font}

{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Calibri}I liked that she included some pictures of Carol, his wife, as well. Married for somewhere near 50 years.{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}Icing on a great cake. He took "Til death do us part" for real. Another reason to admire him and wish I'd got there first. Of course, I'd probably had to fight Jack as well. I hope he knew how many female fans he had and for the right reasons{font}

{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}I just stumbled onto this discussion and Maven puts up one of my favorite villainesses in living color-The Wicked Queen from *Snow White.* She gave me nightmares when I saw this at six years old. She was much more frightening here with those red lips, cold blue eyes and widow's peak head covering than when she became the Wrinkled Old Lady. I can just see the Joan Collins of 30 years ago playing her for real.{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}I have to see *Enchantment* and compare Jayne Meadows there with *Lady in the Lake* where she is also up to no good. It seems to be another case of someone who a decent, likable person off screen but who can be so convincingly diabolical on it. Thanks for adding to my education.{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}I hope this is legible. I watched the whole race, bonfire and all, and am feeling the effects. I'm just thankful nobody died. What a way to start the season. NASCAR fans, pray this is not an omen for the rest of it.{font}

Did you see the photo of her posing with Nick Nolte who seemed totally out of it at the ceremony or just a poor sport about losing? Thinking of him in *Rich Man, Poor Man* makes me cry. Another talented person self-destructing. {font}

{font:Times New Roman}Regarding Gwyneth Paltrow: As someone who doesn’t like black I say “Let’s hear it for the little white dress!” So simple and so perfect. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Times New Roman}I like the green gown the woman in the background has on but it looks about to slide off her chest. The woman in gunmetal needs a slip and Genie Bra. Did they not check the mirrors before leaving home?{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Times New Roman}I hope this photo and the one I wrote about strikes a chord with anybody who finds themselves in such company in the future. Even if you’re unknown to the general public dress like a superstar not Effie Frump. You might end up immortalized on film whether you want to be or not. {font}

{font:}{color:black}But the "best" part was the surprise of finding Dooley Wilson in the film. I didn't know that he was in the cast. I don't know if I had ever seen him in another film before, other than *Casablanca*. That was quite fun - even if he is playing a valet once again.{font}{font:}{color:black} {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{color:black}{font:Calibri}Kyle. Look for a Noah Berry, Jr. film *The Crimson Canary.* Wilson sings One Meat Ball in that one which my mother always sang when she made spaghetti.{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:Calibri}{color:black}I also love this movie. Celeste Holm deserved her Oscar and this is a charming story. {font}

missw: You got me! Ms. Cruz looked like royalty in this photo. That color is beautiful but not loud and again the style is so simple and elegant. And I admit Gwyneth Paltrow was almost as stunning in that simple white gown she wore. And all of the ladies we've mentioned did it without "letting it all hang out".

{font:}{color:black}If you go down to the photo gallery FredCDobbs put on the thread this morning and go to photo 41 you will see her walking by Kristen Wing with an escort. She was in the background during several interviews and I thought her so elegant yet simple. It looked like a purple version of that Halston white gown from the 70's.{font}

{font:}{color:black}I was totally shocked by the pictures of Deadwood and Lead City. I would have thought the buildings would be more primitive but they look quite attractive and sturdy and there seems to be real if unpaved streets. In most Western films the cities don’t look this developed. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}
{font:}{color:black}Seeing the faces of the civilians, soldiers, and Native Americans, especially photo 17, is heartbreaking. It proves we are all human yet one race nearly obliterated the other-who was here first-because it wanted what they had. Those NAs are shown smiling, laughing, shaking hands, and trying to deal honorably with the newcomers; in most cases to their detriment. Thanks to photos like these we will all have a reminder of how things really were. Thank you! {font}

{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}I did, Fred, and they seemed so much more fun and alive that the recent shows have. That includes last night which was too long and boring. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}They need to take a page from last month's Miss America pageant which returned to major network ABC after years on lesser cable stations or untelevised. They cut out the musicals numbers and hyping its network's shows and stars, concentrating on the women competing. This cut the time to two hours and a more interesting show.{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}Last night's show could have been over by eleven if they'd left out the unnecessary focus skit, Cirque du Soliel, and Billy Crystal's Oscar song and stuck to what they're there for-awarding the winners. That's what we want to see along with the fashions. The memorial tribute is all the extra we need. It used to be done between 10 and 12 EST. Even with more awards 2 1/2 hours should be the limit. They're cheapening the awards. {font}

{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}I watched the pre-shows because I wanted to see how the streets compared decorated from when I saw them last year. It was fun to see them on TV and say "I was there last year" and "I walked up those stairs too". I also like to see what the people are wearing as well.{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}The best dressed woman was an unidentified Asian one wearing a purple pleated halter dress and smooth upswept hair style. She kept appearing in the background while the stars were being interviewed and beat a lot of them in the style department.{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}I kept hoping they’d interview Mother Dolores whom I also caught sight of. I'd love to have heard her answer to "Who are you wearing?" Just kidding!{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}Everybody kept trashing Berenice Bejo's dress but I though she looked the best of the celebrities. I usually never agree with them-or they with me-but I stand by my picks. Yes, I'll listen to the fashion wrap shows tonight because I'm woman enough to be interested. {font}

He took "Pappy" Ford's advice and stayed real. That alone makes him a man to be admired and remembered. Thank you, Jack, for sharing.

{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}Thank you, Fred, for the Jeanne Eagles clip. I've seen the Novak biopic and read about her; this was a great chance to see her at work. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}Both husband and wife here seem much less cultured than the Davis/Marshall couple of 1940. Since the husband in the real life incident on which the story/play/movies are based was a teacher the 1940 version would seem closer to the truth. Of course Mrs. Poundlock was convicted and narrowly escaped execution so the truth is being fudged already.{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}I could not access the radio clip which I would like to have had for comparison. {font}

{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}Thank you for the information on this episode. I went to "Wiki" and read the synopsis. A very haunting tale.{font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}{font:}{color:black}The article about the episode said that there was no evidence of Japanese-American disloyalty during the war. In a newsreel that ran on The History Channel the camera shows someone in their area of LA holding a sign saying "We are all loyal Americans; 25% of us are in the military." If true, that's a big bite of the population. And for this they got put in camps. {font}

{color:black}I first saw this movie when I was 8 years old and while the print was not the best it was worth the near 60 year wait. I agree that Mr. O'Herlihy deserved his Oscar nomination; as this was 1954 this makes him a real "contenda" for Brando.
{font:Times New Roman} {font}
{color:black}I have seen worse prints; in fact I did today with another 50's film, *Black Patch*. It looks to have been done on a low budget and is not that well known so perhaps this was the best version Warners could find to work with. Again, it was a film I'd not seen since the 60's so it was better than nothing. I was a bit disappointed but as I've been waiting to see it on TV for ages I gratefully took what I could get. The story and acting were good.
{font:Times New Roman} {font}
{color:black}Maybe we've become spoiled. The alternative is not seeing the movies at all. Thank you, TCM.

Western TV Series - Your Favorites

{font:}{color:black}They made you watch it in school? Hooray! It was mostly based on actual occurrences with only changes in names. I consider it the best TV series ever. TNT or TBS ran it in the 90's and I nearly broke the windows shrieking for joy when I found it. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}
{font:}{color:black}I got the entire series a few years ago but the sound was off and the dialogue didn't match the actors' voices in many scenes. I got used to it just to get to see it again. Richard Chamberlain will always be Alexander McKeeg to me and the end when the eagle flies into a land that's becoming more polluted always chokes me up. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}
{font:}{color:black}I wish I'd seen Brian Keith as TR. I got to see James Whitmore, Sr. do it on stage at the University of Tampa which was originally the hotel where the Rough Riders were based before leaving for San Juan Hill. He was magnificent as Teddy which should surprise nobody. I can see Keith in the role as well. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}
{font:}{color:black}James Arness did *HTWWW *or *The Macahans* after *Gunsmoke.* It made a TV star of Bruce Boxlightner. It was a continuing story rather than stand alone episodes which made it different. There was beautiful artwork used in the credits as well. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}
{font:}{color:black}I’m constantly amazed at how many series were spun off of *Zane Grey Theater. The Rifleman* was another and 4 Star produced * I did not know Peter Breck had died but I understand he had Alzheimer’s Disease so this was merciful. He made that last mostly awful season of *Maverick+* worth watching. {font}
{font:Times New Roman} {font}
{font:}{color:black}Do you get the idea that Westerns are my favorite genre? I wonder why. {font}
