I saw it the first time it was broadcast and found the cast quite convincing. It is one of Mr. Robinson's best.
My favorite one is *Dr. Erlich's Magic Bullets. *He's as far from *Little Caesar* or the villain in *Key Largo* as you can get and thoroughly mesmerizing throughout. There's also the cattle baron betrayed by his wife and brother in *The Violent Men* who goes from hated to sympathetic as we come to know the real man. *Brother Orchid* is a dramedy that gives him a chance to show his humorous side. He can't "play against type" as he doesn't have one. The Chazz Palmenteri tribute is right on the money; he's good in whatever role he plays.

Thanks for giving me something great to share with my sister when I call her later to wish her a happy birthday! -
I did not realize until Lorraine Bracco said so that there was 18 years between the films or that it was 1964 not 54. That explains why Peter Lawford looked so old and puffy as well and that the film had that feel of the other two movies I mentioned.
Bette definately did not take care of her looks as her contemporaries did. That muffin top spilling over her girdle-I guess that's what caused it-made poor Edie look real but not Margaret who would have used her money to pamper herself. Everybody got what they deserved-Edie did kill Margaret and made the poor dog a killer-but Jim and the butler who are the only nice folks in the movie. It is weird but strangely fascinating. I also love the harpsichord score.

When was the James Fitzpatrick short on Chicago shown this evening made? I fell in love with the city as it was then and would have lived there in a heartbeat cold or not. Those buildings were all so beautiful. I'm picturing many of them replaced with the steel and glass generic boxes so popular today and in tears. If they're still with us I'm putting a trip North on my wish list. Wow! -
Hedda, wherever you are: Whatever faults you might have had, backing John Archer made up for some of them. Although 1939 doesn't know it yet he will enjoy a long career and leave us with daughter Anne to carry on the family business.

Of course we remember the wonderful Mr. Bernardi; *Peter Gunn's* Lt. Jacoby, the overprotective big brother in *Love With the Proper Stranger* and Charlie the Tuna who had good taste but didn't taste good enough for Star Kist.
I had no idea that the real Fanny Brice was actually quite attractive. The young Mr. Flynn did top her in the looks department but she had her share.
Have a safe Halloween, folks!

:_| Guess what the BBC is showing today? They ran it earlier with another showing at ten. I started watching but fell asleep in the middle. I might try again.
I did see the head turning and barfing pea soup; that was a crock. When Father Karras was explaining the history of exorcism and Church policy regarding it he was stating fact. The rest of the time I felt set up by stock characters and gave it the ultimate snub. I'm watching *The Sting* now and 25 minutes of it has held more interest than the whole of *The Exorcist.* The right movie won the Oscar. Ugh!

?:| I have and for some strange reason am watching again tonight. It's *A Stolen Life* with a much darker bent. Why Bette made it I'll never know as she had aged much in the years since the original and while that was not a really good film it beats this one. You'd think it was made in 64 rather than 54 as it has the grainy photography that *Baby Jane* and *Sweet Charlotte* did. Beware!

In one of the Warren William films, Perry and Della did get married but spent the rest of the movie solving a murder. I saw it while the series was originally on and don't remember if we even saw a smooch much let anything resembling a wedding night..
I think that the show loaded the stories with double entendres and let the viewers decide for themselves if there was anything other than friendship between Perry and Della. When the two hour shows began we gathered that there wasn't but hopefully there'd been Mrs. Drake so Paul, Jr. was born in wedlock. Ironically he was played by William Katt, Barbara Hale's son with husband Bill Williams/Katt.

; Oh, great! I avoided this movie when it came out but might have to give it a look now.
I remember passing a book store back in the med 60's and seeing *Rosemary's Baby* proximately displayed in the window. Then the movie came out and seemed to start this whole occult movie thing. By the time *The Exorcist* came out I was sick of it and stayed away.
I believe in heaven, hell, and Satan but believe he's a lot more subtle than twisting heads and barfing pea soup. I doubt anybody else has seen anything like this either. I still think the best movie portrayal of evil is Paul Newman's mob boss in *The Road to Perdition.* That's the best depiction of it as I learned it in Catholic school. The closest thing to the weird stuff you other folks have described was when a nun caught me muttering to myself on occasions and said she thought I was possessed. I thought the same about her but was afraid to say so. I guess someday I'll find out which of us was right. ]

Fredbaetz: Me TV is running *The Rouges* if you are up that late at night. Larry Hagman was also in the cast; this was about the time he was in *Fail Safe.*
Bronxgirl48: Do you remember the Jackie & Gail song *Why Can’t All My Teachers* *Look Like Mr. Novak Instead of Like Mr. Ed?* I was a James Franciscus fan too and I don’t usually like blonde men. He was on the first season of *Naked City* and did another film with Suzanne Pleshette, *A Rage to Live*. Maybe the nest time *Youngblood Hawke* is on I will be in town as I missed that one. Of course there’s that *Twilight Zone* episode about the torpedoed ship and he did another series where he played a blind detective.
I’m glad I got to see *The Razor’s Edge* last night. Gene Tierney could really play the angel outside, devil inside role to perfection. Isabelle was Ellen Barrent’s *(Leave **er to Heaven*) twin and the Princess from *The Egyptian’s* triplet. I now know why Anne Baxter won an Oscar; Sophie is the exact opposite of Eve Harrington. Larry must have really hit home with Tyrone Power as he was trying to become known as a good actor and not just a handsome face. For my money, he won.
Still tweaking my new computer. They always claim they’re simpler with each new program which is a big lie.

When the new season started up last month the station that had been providing us with RTV replaced it with Me TV as some of you reported had happened in your areas. I was miffed at first but am now glad they did. There is much more variety in the programing and the reception is a big improvement. It's becomming rather addictive.
What is Boomerang? Our cable group also replaced American Life with some junk that combines old shows with viewer videos and is a mess so I'm open to new stuff.

Does anybody remember when they tried another TV version of *Perry Mason* in the 70's with Monte Markham and Sharon Acker as Perry and Della? It only went a season despite the fact that Markham is/was a formidable actor and played him well. With both the original series and later TV movies still running whoever tries the role again has some big shoes to fill. When creator Earl Stanley Gardner chose Burr as Mason instead of Berger, the role he was approached for, he knew what he was doing.

From* Someone to Watch Over Me *spoken by this week's host, Lorraine Bracco, to the comment "You know, you're husband's a real dork".
"Yeah-but he's my dork".

I'm a Senior Citizen who at times feels older than I am but waited tables at a church function today as I did in college and felt 20 again. I much prefer most of the films of the classic age to the newer ones as they have substance over style. Today that means violence, destruction and noise too loud to be healthy. I just spent a week with my 88 year-old mother and we actually seen to have something in common now. I guess I'm now and old fogie too and proud of it.

William Campbell was a good actor and this was made while Chessman was still alive. I'd like to see it.
Alan Alda played him in a TV movie after his execution. I remember when it happened and couldn't believe it did as he never killed anyone. I'm not saying rape and robbery aren't serious crimes but to me the punishment did not fit the crimes unless I'm missing some facts.

I've often said I think all people should be made to watch* Rebel *with their parents on their 13th birthday and discuss it afterwards. The next seven years might be much better for them all as each side saw the other point of view. The best "role models" kids have should be their parents.
Also the 90's *Boys in the Hood* covered much of the story in a different time, place, economic and cultural situation. It was that fathers matter. The less contact the kids in each film had with theirs, the less they were able to deal with the problems they had. This might not be the "politically correct" party line today but I think it still holds. I still like and watch both films.

{font:Times New Roman}:^0 Wow! I just checked in after a week away and found a wealth of favorite performers I share the month with.{font}
{font:Times New Roman}So Robert Webber and Roger Moore have the same date. Sir Roger might be the better known but plain old Mr. Webber had it all over him in talent.{font}
{font:Times New Roman}Robert Lowry was one man who definitely got more appealing with age-and how! Hang in there, men, it could happen to you.{font}
{font:Times New Roman}I was never a Julie Adams fan; she was beautiful but always had a hard look to me. She looked so soft and natural receiving that award.{font}
{font:Times New Roman}Missed all this; glad to be back.:^0 {font}

Just saw these photos; I enjoy the work of both men but never caught the resemblance. Patrick is our local boy made good and I hope his career is as long as Paul's. The whole Wilson family are first class people who give back much of themselves.
I'll bee off the Board for a week for my annual trip to my Mom's place in Jacksonville for my Saturday birthday. If this year is like the last, I'll be spending another week catching up of all I'll miss. Stay safe, everybody.

I vote YES! I found both Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet believable as the lovers; while the role was a bit over the top Billy Zane brought humanity to Cal. The authentic size of the ship made us understand why it was thought unsinkable. We saw that the whole thing need not have happened except for human arrogance, greed and pride and the working class passengers in steerage got the worst of the deal and died because of it. Yes, I know most of the rich male socialites died too but they chose to because of their code of chivalry while the others never had a chance. think about 15 minutes or so could have been cut from the sinking portion but otherwise it touched all my emotions. It was well worth my money.

From *Double Indemnity:* Edward G. Robinson as Barton Keyes responding to a question about a witness:
"His name was Johnson; probably still is".
He says it with such dry humor it's funny wether he meant it to be or not.
-
I like it too and it's only rated 1 1/2 stars. I'm not that big on Allyson or Johnson but the idea of the story is good. I'm certain that a June/Van collection will come as well as a June/Jimmy Stewart one.
-
I've heard Ann Sheridan also declined *Mildred Pierce* because she didn't want to be an 18 year old's mother on screen. What this might have done for her career boggles the mind. After *Nora Prentiss *W/B seemed to give up on her.
Luckily Lana Turner learned from this and did play a teen ager's mother in *Peyton Place* getting her only Oscar nomination.

*Singin in the Rain*. I would loved to have played Lina Lamont. "Of course, I can talk; don't everybody?"

Nobody has mentioned it but Aniko Farrell, stage star and the wife of *Lil Abner* star Peter Palmer, died a few weeks ago from cancer. They lived in this area for many years and were very active in charitable and artistic affairs through civic and philanthropic agencies and their church. She was only 68. Another gift from our Canadian neighbors.
