Ben Mankiewicz's dad was the president of NPR. So he knows his way, as a teenager, "the business". Remember his grandfather was Herman Mankiewicz; uncle Joe Mankiewicz. His article did say "says a Roger Ailes-like character in the film".
If you are coming from the left in Hollywood you can say anything and it's just accepted, witness Charlie Sheen.
