  1. I have had occasion of recent to prove that I retain excellent gun control! I placed six of six rounds within three inch circle at seven-hundred-and-fifty yards.
  2. I am sorry to say that I doubt delay between subscribing and being allowed to post or limiting number of posts would have great effect. We see now one new poster posting great number of spam posts. It would require merely change to automated script to allow for delay between subscribing and posting or to create new subscription for every 'x' posts. It is now that Moderator must remove one member only to delete all spam posts. It would be far more time-consuming for them to have to remove member for every 'x' spam posts. One forum which I visit requires new poster to make ten replies in one board before they are allowed to create post and they must have twenty-five posts as replies and/or created posts before they are allowed to post to other boards. This has been found to hamper new subscribers because they lurk for long time seeking information and opinions and make decision to join only when they have important pertinent comment to make. Inability to make comment in other than: "new members" board deters them because what they wish to say is inappropriate to that board and so they remain as lurkers. I am sad to say that I do not have solution for most problems which are faced by users of this forum. Any restrictions to prevent abuse inevitably result in difficulty for new members or claims of police-state by established members.
  3. I would not have passed that test when I became a member of this forum. It could be argued that I remain unqualified in that my sentences are not at all times easy to parse and that I do not understand proper meaning of many phrases in some posts.
  4. I hope that all have a very Happy Thanksgiving! I am sorry to hear of your mother, molo. I do know that nurses try to make holidays a little brighter for those who can not be with their families. I hope her recovery is swift.
  5. I am sorry to say that I still do not truly have my legs for this holiday and so my husband takes on all duties associated with it. I am allowed to cook yams. His method of preparing turkey is to remove the wrapper, rinse the bird and put it in a five-gallon bucket. He then covers it with water and adds two heaping handfuls of Kosher salt for each gallon of water. This then sits covered for a day. He removed the bird and poured out the brine. He removed the neck and giblets from the interior. He rinsed the bird inside and out and returned it to the bucket. He rubbed the interior of the bird with our fresh rosemary and added more to sit inside it. He then cut six key limes and two lemons and placed then into the bird. He added approx. one-half cup of apple cider vinegar and covered the bird with cold water and added two handfuls of Kosher salt and one handful of dark brown sugar for each gallon of water. That sat on cool back porch until today when he drained the brine and added fresh rosemary and limes and lemons and brine. He prefers to roast by placing the bird in a very hot oven and then soon turning it down to 250 degrees and letting it roast most of the day. I have tasted other people's turkey and did not care for it overmuch. I love his! It is one of the reasons I keep him around.
  6. This is exceptionally sorrowful news. She was quite wonderful.
  7. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2015 8:00 PM Desk Set (1957) This is quite wonderful movie! Neither of the leading actors are usually to my taste but I find this movie quite charming and touching.
  8. I wish to thank you very, very much tcmprogrammer for sharing your away-from-office time with us. It is your brilliance which has created such strong community of followers and most of us appreciate all that you are able to bring us. I appreciate especially when you comment in TCM Programming Challenge thread because it often means you will be stealing borrowing inspired by themes presented in the entries. I wish it was within your power to create relationship with Mosfilm. They have so many wonderful movies.
  9. Hákarl is prepared by gutting and beheading a poisonous shark and then burying it in shallow hole. It ferments in its own juices for months. Then it is dried and crust removed and served. It is considered by many to be a great delicacy. Particular size of shark at particular time of year prepared by renowned maker can push prices to more than $40 per pound. American celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain has stated that it is the worst thing he has ever eaten. What a Way to Go (1964) is for you Hákarl. It is for me smoked salmon with dill and sour cream. I feel small sense of loss that this movie is not to your taste.
  10. I believe that would be ideal for it would end speculation for all of us. I am sad to say that I believe it is quite unlikely for them to do so. There have been other threads of this nature and none received official comments. The only TCM Programmer posts of which I am aware have been congratulatory comments for all entries in TCM Programming Challenge. Those have been sporadic and I know of no response to a reply to their posts.
  11. Concerning the: "money for old rope" argument: Capuchin is a writer. He usually sells First North American Serial rights to his short stories. He is free to sell 'reprint rights' as soon as the story appears in the magazine which purchased that right. A science fiction short story which he wrote appeared in a magazine in U.S.A. in 1982. It did not receive any awards nor any critical acclaim. In July of this year he sold the right to reprint it to a magazine in Canada. He received US$325. For seven thousand words. In a genre. Written in 1982. For market in Canada. Is it a wonder that rights to air a movie cost many, many, many times that amount?
  12. I believe they used: John Wayne Westerns because it is lowest-of-the-low in price because there are so many of them and few received critical notice. I am sure that I have seen a fifty-movie collection of: John Wayne Westerns for: $12.95 at local store. That is close to cost of manufacturing, packaging and distribution. I doubt you could buy DVD of: Lured (1947) for less than: $5 for the one movie. There is cost also of locating individual rights-holder and negotiation and attorney fees. I doubt very much that any installment of: Stars Wars series would be less than two orders of magnitude larger than your quote even for airing in Canada market.
  13. http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=offended It appears to have peaked in 2010-2011 but remains much higher than: previous-to-2009 levels.
  14. I will simply renew my previous pick: Wednesday at 8:00 P.M with subject of Korean massage parlors.
  15. A comment by the wonderful MissWonderly in different thread caused me to begin to wonder how many here are not native U.S.A.ians. MissWonderly has stated several times that she is in Canada. I am here now but was not originally. I believe that Capuchin counts as import because he is most often in his own little world. What of others here?
  16. I have found this regarding cost of movies: "The price of movies is usually kept a secret as the movie reps often sell the same movie for different prices to different channels. An estimate of the prices are anything from $5,000 for an old John Wayne western to $5,000,000 for Iron Man 3 and $50,000,000+ for a package of the current and upcoming Marvel Studios movies." http://www.quora.com/How-do-TV-stations-buy-the-rights-to-screen-a-movie-Is-there-a-marketplace-for-movie-rights It is likely that many movies are licensed with rights to air in both USA and Canada because rights-holder holds television rights for the movie in both countries. I am sure that TCM Programmers have tight budget. To negotiate and licence Canada-only rights would be five-figure expense for each movie.
  17. I must wonder if there are any financial dramas set there. I do know that several major banks have processing centers there because it is fairly centralized but much cheaper than Kansas City.
  18. I like this movie very much! It is broad spoof which does not take itself seriously. It is very definitely a movie of its time. I love the champagne-glass bed! It looks to me that actors were having fun while making it and that goes a very long way with me.
  19. You win the pool! Your guess was much closer to today's spamfest than mine. I hereby award you: 1000 Internet Point. They are redeemable for 50 Internet Hugs or 10 Internet Chocolates. I hope you enjoy your prize!
  20. I like that movie very much! It is quite silly. I will remember for all time the line that she named her canary: Richelieu because he wished to be a Cardinal. I believe it must be remembered that it is a movie about a bad movie and the efforts to keep it from being shown. I must wonder if they were tempted to enact the movie by hiring some person to steal the only print after it was completed.
  21. Omaha, Nebraska has a long and rich history. It was an important jumping-off point for settlement of the West and so many movies concerning that era have scenes set there. It was then important railroad hub for cattle transport and so many Westerns have scenes set there. It is now home to: Offutt AFB which was home to: SAC during Cold War and so many movies concerning USAF operations have scenes set there. Earliest movie which I could find: Clothes (1914). Most recent movie which I could find: Zombie Strippers (2008).
  22. Perhaps it would be right and proper for us to begin a pool for next attack. Winner will receive one thousand Internet points. I pick: Wednesday at 8:00 P.M with subject of Korean massage parlors.
  23. I believe they have had a program which featured: Simo Häyhä. He was sniper with more than five hundred confirmed kills and approx. three hundred kills in non-sniper activity. Soviet forces invading Lapland/Finland is known as the: "Winter War." Reading of it might change your attitude towards them.
  24. I am sorry to say that I know of no other channel which uses that option.
