I had not realized that it was harvest season for spam. I do hope that Korean farmers are joyous to have such a bumper crop to share with us.

Haven't posted in forever have a question about recording off TCM

We use now exclusively Magnavox DVD recorders with hard drives for recording. These are not top-of-the-line units with wide variety of fancy features. They are basic units which do what we require and are available at reasonable price. We record to hard drive and then edit as needed and then copy edited version to DVD. This is much faster and cleaner than editing DVD. It is nice that we can use as DVR to "rewind live tv" and to pause broadcast. We can rewind up to six hours and then watch or record to hard drive. I recommend that you investigate whether one of these units might fit your needs when you need to replace your DVD/VCR combo. They are typically fifty percent more expensive than DVD/VCR combo of comparable quality. Model available at current time is: MDR557H/F7 with 1TB hard drive able to record more than one thousand hours. It is $300 at wally-world. -
I have not been able to open any of your Voting threads. Software times out before it finishes loading. It is my experience that this occurs often when there are large posts within a thread. Software prefers posts as small as possible. I had particular problem at one time until I separated each entrant's schedule from their programming notes to make two large posts rather than one huge one. I have come to believe that it is of help also to add very small posts of no consequence so that average post size is less. You have created a wonderful Challenge and ran it well. I hope that you are able to conquer this problem with ease.

It is my understanding that copy-protect settings are done by cable company or cable-company-supplied DVR. We regularly record to DVR and then copy to DVD. I have had one instance only of copy-protect while recording from TCM. That was some years ago and it is sad to say that movie has not aired again. -

We keep a copy of IE8 on the computer because one of its options is to save a webpage as .txt file. There are blocks of formatting instructions before and after the actual schedule which need to be deleted but we have a macro which does that neatly. It is unfortunate that you use Word. We use WP and have created macros to change the .txt schedule into format suitable for database. We would be willing to share those macros but I doubt they would work in Word. It is sad to say that there is in every schedule a few things which are atypical and so the macros do not handle them properly. It is for this reason it requires approx. five minutes to prepare it for database and an average of forty minutes more to fix errors. It is sad to say that we are now more than a year behind also. It is doubtful that we will catch up soon because both our workloads have recently increased to insane levels.

I would love this very much. I would in particular like to see movies in which he shows incredible range of talents. One movie which I would love to watch which includes his singing:

What the word brings first to my mind is: It is my understanding that the word primarily indicates erratic, inappropriate or asocial behaviour rather than a specific act. It is not used solely as pejorative. A person who: 'freaks out' is incapable of acting rationally. A person who is a: 'freak' is not likely to wear a suit and tie and have employment at a bank.

I know there was censorship because I remember expletive in title of movie being edited in one of my posts. I do not know if it was automatic or if it was caught and changed by Moderator.

I am sorry to say that I do not understand the logic of your statement. It seems to me akin to lauding Britain for not using nuclear weapons during: The Hundred Years War. 'Those' words have never been used as expletives or in expletive-laden insults solely because they are not available for use because of moderation which has been in place from long before current automatic censor came on-line. It is natural to judge people by their vocabulary and to make subconscious decisions concerning how much contact you wish to have with them based on that judgement. I feel very strongly that a few on this forum are so very juvenile that their posts would be laden with such words if there were no moderation. Many new users who come to forum to find informed opinions and to share tastes are likely to limit their involvement if they see such crude posts. I believe that moderation is necessary if this forum is to not become 4Chan or 9Gag equivalent. Automatic censor is one tool of moderation. I would personally take sharp shears and prune massive amounts from the word list which it uses but it is not my place to do so. I was raised in a port city. It is likely that I know more expletives than most here. I know usage and inflections which make common expletives to be particularly nasty. That I chose to not use such words here is because I recognize that this is not the place for such language. This means that to me the automatic censor is silly, needless thing with amusing quirks but I would not see it removed because it limits those who are so very juvenile that they feel illicit thrill each time they type a bad word. Those who disagree with my attitude concerning this can return to making hats.

I made grievous error in not reading rules and assuming schedule was for week in coming year. It was therefore inappropriate. It is likely that I will use good parts of it in future Challenge. I was truly not happy with two days but had little recourse because I had locked into general theme of recognized 'Days.' Peculiar People Day, Holy Feast of Paul the Hermit, National Poetry at Work Day and Dragon Appreciation Day were easy and fun to fill. New Year's Eve in Gregorian Calendar was problematic because of dearth of movies concerning New Year's Eve and so I had to chose movies which simply had New Year's Eve parties in them. I felt that was very weak. Organize Your Home Day brought no inspiration and so I had to settle for chosing movies which had maid in prominent role. That was obviously mediocre stretch and result was a little embarrassing. I feel only true loss is that this Challenge allowed television episodes and allowed two free Premieres for movies made by same actor. It was opportunity to alert people to rich history of: Doctor Who as one episode was 1972 and other was 2013 with Jon Pertwee in same role. It was excuse also to present movies: How to Undress in Public Without Undue Embarrassment (1965) and: The Body Said No! (1950) which are otherwise quite difficult to work into schedule. Error may have been good thing. I have done schedules of which I am very proud. They gathered few votes. I have won with schedules which I felt were mediocre. I feel this schedule bordered on mundane in some ways. I would have been in difficult position if it had won because I do not know when my current work will lighten. It has become insane situation which might require six months or more to return to normal.

HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM
SansFin replied to Bogie56's topic in General Discussions
It is to me that James Mason and Trevor Howard are of a kind in that they are excellent at being a mirror to reflect and clarify how reality is distorted. -
I am very sorry to be such disruption. It is my error in making assumption and not reading rules. To change schedule to be acceptable for week of January 8 to January 14, 2017: All evenings can remain as they are not date-specific. I would lose: Holy Feast of Paul the Hermit on January 15 and Dragon Appreciation Day on January 16. I would have to create new day-schedules for January 8 and January 9. January 8 is: Argyle Day and English Toffee Day. January 9 is: Static Electricity Day and Apricot Day. I am sorry to say that time is limited for me at present because of work. I will try to find time to make alterations but it is not probable. We have several wonderful schedules to consider. I know that it will be very difficult for me to make selection for voting.

I love your marvelous schedule, speedracer5! I do hope that TCM Programmers use your: Audrey Hepburn in Paris theme! I love both of those movies. I love your salute to: Don Ameche! Midnight (1939) and: Heaven Can Wait (1943) are two of my all-time favorites. I like very much your salute to: Edith Head. She was indeed a wonder. I believe that one can never be in the wrong to schedule Preston Sturges movies back-to-back.

I am sorry to say that I have much less now than before. I discovered that actor I choose for: Show Business challenge had roles in television from beginning of career. I thought to use: Flash Gordon as: Guest Programmer but now I must find different one. I forgot: Friday Night Spotlight and theme I choose for that night is date-specific and is not appropriate for other Fridays in month. I had five nights with sketch of sixth. I have now two nights.

I love your wonderful schedule very much, LonesomePolecat! Sheldon Leonard is excellent example of good actor who failed to come to be popular until he moved to television. I did like him as thug in several movies and wish he could have done many more. I must believe that your selection of: Flash Gordon as: Guest Programmer must be excellent as I had chosen him also but with far different movies! "Whose Body is it anyway?" is stunning theme! I love it very much! You have included many of my favorite movies!
