The remake is very tepid in comparison. I thank you for that information. It is sad to say that Victor Mature fails to inspire any great emotions in me. I believe it must be better than the remake but I will continue to wish for Dana Andrews in the lead. I do not in general like Dana Andrews but he is excellent in the niche of driven noir tec.

10 Films Set in the Middle Ages (BFI List)

> {quote:title=RMeingast wrote:}{quote} > featuring Ray Harryhausen's historically accurate monsters... I have learned recently that there are great artistic demands for anatomical accuracy in even the wildest monster creations. A monster which violates natural forms to a great degree are not as scary as one which looks as if it could be real. -

I hope you would have room for one Bollywood musical each month. They are so very over-the-top and I find them very funny even although I do not understand the humor that is meant to be there.

Yea, I know it is very much over the top and I can see the jokes coming (well by now I know the dialog by heart), but I still laugh every time I see it. I know I will never forget the title in an episode: The Tequila Mockingbird. -
Who's your favorite classic movie actor?
SansFin replied to CmRetrospective's topic in General Discussions
Steve McQueen and Audrey Hepburn with hundreds of others tied for second-favorite. -
*... And God Created Woman* (1956) I like this movie but I do not understand those who rave for it. *Another Language* (1933) I hoped it would be much more than it is. *Chandu the Magician* (1932) I found this a neat little movie. *Dr. Renault's Secret* (1942) I liked this. *The House on 92nd Street* (1945) I found this movie to be a bit odd. I liked it even although there were many reasons I should not. *How to Steal a Million* (1966) I am sorry to say I do not know your tastes so well as to make predictions but I know that you do not like this movie as greatly as I do. I often think of it as my favorite of all time movie. There is no part of it which is not perfect. *Satan Met a Lady* (1936) I believe I am one of six people in the world who prefer this movie above the remake. *Thirty Day Princess* (1934) I found it nice. *Vicki* (1953) I believe I would have liked it very much more if the cast had been different. *Woman on the Run* (1950) An odd little noir.

10 Films Set in the Middle Ages (BFI List)

It must be understood that all legitimate movies between 1924 and 1960 had to be heavy with state-approved ideals. There were some made independent of the state but they were very much low-budget and were usually very short. -

Not all of your preferred medications come in pretty prescription bottles and the police are knocking at your front door. You wish to spend a quiet moment with the only thing in your home which never gives give you s**t. It is the only place to escape obnoxious guests for some time and they will be sympathetic towards you if you spend an exceptionally long time there and exit with a grimace.

> {quote:title=slaytonf wrote:}{quote} > As an aside, I have to say I can't understand why so many posters think Blazing Saddles is offensive, and therefore can not be made today. I believe *C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America* (2004) proves that such a movie can be made today. It received high critical acclaim. It did not become popular but I believe that is because it lacked the comic genius. -

> {quote:title=slaytonf wrote:}{quote} > So let me see if I understand this. Roku works over the internet, so you need an internet connection from your cable company, if not their TV. You can have internet connection from any ISP. It does not have to be a cable modem connection. > Roku "channels" are Websites that have deals with Roku so you can only watch them with one of their boxes, and not with a computer. Right? It was explained to me that the tuner built into the television deals with signals from antenna or cable and Roku is like a tuner that deals with signals from the Internet. I have seen Roku in several places. It lacks several traits that are necessary before I will have one.

I am sorry to say that I do not understand the purpose of this thread. I have not read in any place that Mr. Brooks claimed his ideas or works were original. It is my understanding also that people of his ilk believe that no person creates things and that other people make it happen. I have no care for whether his movies were in any way original because I am at all times so very busy laughing. -

It was good on many levels but Kenneth Branagh is not as much to my taste as Lawrence Olivier is and so I had high hopes for this version.

> {quote:title=FlyBackTransformer wrote:}{quote} > I doan know, foreign language films have always seemed to me to be either too artsy, surreal or both. I believe that that is a common perception here because the only foreign movies which received exposure here were ones chosen to be imported because they were so very different from mainstream. The ordinary movies of other countries were not considered worth the time and expense of importation. -

I am so very disappointed. I believe I have not seen this movie Hamlet and I was happy to have an opportunity to see it. The DVR was recording it faithfully as I was not able to watch until the last few minutes. They cut so many of my favorite lines from the last scene that I doubt I will bother to watch it from the beginning.

TCM Flix to Groove To!! Week of Mon, Apr 1-Sun, Apr 7!!!

The movies of Monday night: *It Happens Every Spring* (1949) and *Angels in the Outfield* (1951) are the type of light-hearted fare which I hold very dear. I love *Green Mansions* (1959) because of its simple beauty. I am curious of *The Murderer Lives at Number 21* (1947). I have a sense that it should star Peter Lorre. -

It is a standard trope from Superman endangering airline passengers by unregulated use of airspace to James Bond and his license to kill. > I don't believe that a "greater good" can come of such immoral acts as the predictable, and totally unnecessary, slaughter of a bunch of innocent people in a public place. I do not know how that statement relates to this movie. I may have missed things for which I was not specifically looking but I I recall no such "slaughter". The restaurant scene was previously mentioned but I examined it specifically and I saw no injuries sustained by innocent people. Those who were not involved were frightened and fled. -
