  1. I wish a warm welcome for you.

I fear you will not find Martin Scorsese movies airing often as they are modern. The only ones which are in my database of movies in recent TCM schedules are:

    *The Age of Innocence* (1993)

*Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore* (1974)

    *Boxcar Bertha* (1972)

    *Goodfellas* (1990)

    *Italianamerican* (1974)

    *The King of Comedy* (1983)

    *Kundun* (1997)

    *The Last Waltz* (1978)

    *Mean Streets* (1973)

    *New York, New York* (1977)

    *Raging Bull* (1980)

    *Taxi Driver* (1976)

Berndnaut Smilde is an artist who uses science often to create works. The most well-known are clouds created in rooms by adjusting pressure and humidity.

I am sorry to say I can not find an image that is in the public domain or Creative Commons license and so I can only post links to them.

    > And you've never heard Britney Spears? Please allow me to introduce you. Carole King she ain't but in the late 90's, possibly the biggest thing since the Beatles.

I thank you for the link. I have heard the song at some time but did not know the name of the singer and so did not know to associate it with her. My knowledge of American pop singers is lacking greatly because I do not like how they are homogenized.

I prefer pop singers with texture such as VarVara:

    The song is Katyusha

Pears and apples blossomed on their branches.

River mist was spreading high and wide.

On the steep and lofty bank at morning

Katy came walking by the riverside.

Katy came walking, singing in the morning

Of a brave gray eagle of the steppes,

Of a man she'd come to call beloved

Of a man whose letters she had kept.

Darling song, song of a loving maiden,

Following the sun fly high and straight

Toward a soldier far out on the border

Bringing greetings from yours truly Katy.

Bid him then recall a simple woman,

Bid him hear her voice in every verse,

Bid him with his life guard mother Russia,

And his Katy shall guard their love with hers.

Pears and apples blossomed on their branches.

River mist was spreading high and wide.

On the steep and lofty bank at morning

Katy came walking by the riverside.

    > Another plot hole is that the monster was able to wander to Baron Frankenstein's house in broad daylight, while the whole village is out celebrating the nuptials....someone should've seen him (too bad Una O"Connor wasn't in this one...she could've shieked a warning to the villagers.)

It is quite common for people to not notice things which are outside of their purpose. Such effects have been studied by psychologists:

    > I was very shocked when I scrolled dow the list and saw that The Deer Hunter will air on February 8th.

February is known because of the traditional Oscar tribute to be a month of recent movies which most people feel are not truly appropriate for TCM.

It is a time most use as a chance to catch up on the movies they have recorded in December and January which they did not have time to watch because those months often have many more movies than most people have time to watch when they air.

I have a perverse fascination with junctures of art and science. I believe in this instance that the music is perverse and the science is fascinating. :)

The Bartok is exact. I can not speak of Britney Spears. I have heard the name often but I do not know that I have ever heard her sing and I have more than fifty YouTube searches which I must do before I look for some other new thing.

    > According to the schedule, it looks like there is a short called *THROTTLE PUSHERS* in the middle of *THE DARK ANGEL.* What's the deal? I see it on the schedule on site and on my TV guide.

I believe it is not in the middle. The change in time due to setting the clocks back make it appear the previous movie has a much shorter time slot than is real.

    > Hot dog, a chronological compendium of the Saint movies for the next few weeks at noon on Saturday!

It is unfortunate that *The Saint's Girl Friday* (1953) is missing from the schedule. It is one in which Louis Hayward returned to the role. I believe TCM has never aired it.

    > the odious, despicable, no talent bum Tom Cruise, who is as classic as

I believe the homepage banner is for the TCM Cruise and not for the "actor". ;)

  10. I hope all remember to watch: *The Saint In New York* (1938) this morning. I believe it is the first movie of the series and it is of a much stronger flavor than those which followed. It has Louis Hayward as a much more hard-bitten, cynical and pragmatic Simon Templar than George Sanders' portrayals.

I hope also that all will watch: *The Divorce Of Lady X* (1938) tonight. It is not an important and socially significant movie which will raise your awareness of deeply troubling moral issues. It is a fun romp with the usually stoic and powerful Laurence Olivier as a befuddled mess because of the intrusion of a mere wisp of a girl into his life. The wonderful performances by Merle Oberon, Binnie Barnes, Ralph Richardson and Morton Selten add greatly to the fun.

  11. My main objection to him has always been his scruffy look. It did not seem to fit him. It was much as if he was a ten-year-old boy being dressed as a hippie for Halloween and then refusing to take off the costume.

I believe the makeover/remake suits him well except for the glasses.

I doubt he has great input in the text for the majority of the introductions. He may be consulted if there is a possibility that he has a behind-the-scenes tidbit for a particular movie because of this familial ties.

He delivers the lines well and is pleasing in appearance. I do not know what more may be required in such work.

  12. Changing your plans is letting the hurricane win.

I believe it would not be practical to postpone such an event. Planning for the next year often begins as soon as one is ended. It would be a slap-dash affair to try to bring all the factors into proper alignment for a date a few weeks later.

I do not see what resources it is using that would be better used for recovery. It is not as if they need utility workers, emergency food supplies, or bulldozers for the race.

I believe a case could be made for cancelling the next annual event using the same arguments as have been presented for cancelling this one. It will take much more than a year to replace all that was lost and to rebuild what was razed. It is also possible that a year from now is when FEMA will begin to do its job.

    > What did he expect, a hanged man to have a neck in mint condition?

Consistency in breaking the neck during hanging is a fairly recent development. Most deaths by hanging were the result of strangulation which is what made it a particularly cruel, frightening and spectacular death. The guillotine was invented to correct the perceived deficiencies in both beheading by ax and by hanging in that it assured quick death.

There are reports that even after the calculations of weight and length of drop were standardized so as to provide a clean break of the neck many executioners refused to use them because they felt it was in God's hands to either show mercy or make the criminal suffer.

I do not have actual statistics at hand to cite but it is my impression that until the late Eighteenth Century a hanging had approx. a one-in-twenty chance of breaking the neck.

    > Unbelieveable. Anything goes now, I guess.....

We have the published schedules dating from August, 2005 to October, 2012. Twenty movies in that time have dates of 2000 and newer. This represents less than 00.2% of the movies scheduled. I believe the majority of them have been part of Februarys' Oscar tribute.

I do not mind an infrequent newer movie which the programmers feel is relevant. I do not mind *Infernal Affairs* (2002) as it is a good movie which is more than its genre and it is not easily available elsewhere.

I hope you find time to watch it as it is not a movie which should be judged by its blurb. The acting and sensibilities are on a par with older classic movies.

    > Is this a record for the most recently released film airing on TCM?

    Past schedules have included:

    The Clay Bird (2002)

    Ritual (2002)

    Spirited Away (2002)

Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003)

    Rana's Wedding (2003)

    I'm Not Scared (2004)

    The Band's Visit (2007)

    Shotgun Stories (2007)

    Trouble the Water (2008)

    Don't Expect Too Much (2011)

    > Would Dracula's daughter have a reflection?

I believe that many woman would like to become a vampire if it were not for fear of losing their mirrors. You would no longer have to get up at dawn or cook meals. You would not gain weight or age. You get to bite men. No friend could expect you to be their bridesmaid because that would mean entering a church. It is the perfect reason also to not have a nine-to-five job!

Not being able to touch-up their make-up or check the drape of their hair is the deal-killer for many women!
