  1. I didn't seen ONE bird killed by a car this entire year.

I wish very much that deer in this area were so fortunate. We made a little road trip this week past and I counted nineteen deer carcasses or large blood smears on highway indicating a strike within first four hundred miles.

  3. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931)

I recommend highly that you next view: Jekyll and Hyde... Together Again (1982). It is a free-wheeling romp. It is obvious in many ways that it was not made by Mel Brooks but it is in the same spirit as: Young Frankenstein (1974).

Customs Agent: Anything to declare, sir?

Mr. Hyde: Man has not evolved an inch from the primordial slime that spawned him.
    Customs Agent: Very good, sir.

  4. I just made homemade cream of chicken noodle soup yesterday and the finishing touch was a large stirring spoonful (ha.. yes, that is a real measurement.. at least in my kitchen) of cream cheese

My mother wrote out many recipes for me and I wrote many per her instructions as I watched her cook and bake. Some noodles are cut as long as a cigarette. A spatula with holes is pressed down on butter and then slid off. What butter remains in the holes is the proper amount. The back of a spoon is made wet with hot water and then pressed into a spice jar. What spice sticks to it is the proper amount. You reach into a sack of flour with two fingers and pull straight up. The little pyramid of flour on your fingers is the proper amount.

She had proper scales and measuring spoons but many of her measurements were what she had found worked best for her.

  5. What are rye rusks? And is this an old family recipe? For real?!

Rye rusks are rye bread which has been dried. They are in some manner similar to croutons.

Chicken stock with a few things added was a staple soup at home. Amount and type of vegetables and cheese varied by availability. This was the most simple. My mother wrote this down for me when my first attempt to make it when living on my own was a disaster. I had remembered ingredients but had no sense of proportions of each and so created a cheese-chicken syrup with lumps of over-cooked and under-cooked vegetables.

  6. I remember this soup quite fondly. It is very quick and easy to make and it is very comforting.

I am sorry to say that I have not made it in the time that I have been here and so my conversions may not be exact. I do not know how that will alter taste or texture or consistency.

    Peel and grate one carrot.

Peel and dice finely two medium potatoes.

Dice ten ounces of cream cheese.

Boil two quarts chicken stock. Add carrot and potatoes. Boil ten minutes. Add cream cheese. Stir while cheese melts.

    Cover and simmer fifteen minutes.

    Serve with rye rusks.

  8. That was twenty years ago and since then I have only tried it at food festivals. It wasn't as good as my coworker's! I never did try to make it myself.

I believe that you will never find it made as well as a babushka's. They hone their technique over decades. It is pride beyond family and wealth to make it with perfection.

I believe that major difference between real and what is served here is that they do not ferment the beets. That is what gives it its special tang.

  9. I think Samantha and Darrin on BEWITCHED were the first television married couple to be seen sleeping in the same bed together.

I am sorry to have to say that you are a decade-and-a-half late. I believe that the first depiction of a married couple sharing a bed was in: Mary Kay and Johnny (1947–1950). I believe that it is considered to be the first sitcom on American television. It is claimed to be also the first television program to feature a pregnancy but I do not know if the word: 'pregnant' was truly in the script.

  10. Morticia: Gomez.

    Gomez: Querida?

Morticia: Last night you were unhinged. You were like some desperate, howling demon. You frightened me. Do it again!

This is from the movie: The Addams Family (1991) but I feel strongly that they truly captured the spirit of the original series.

Morticia: Don't torture yourself, Gomez. That's my job.

I believe this proves that she knows well how to be a perfect wife.

  11. I think you may be right TopBilled about a "civilian" use computer. Science Fiction movies did use them earlier.

    Real computers used in movies:

The: GE Differential Analyzer appeared in: Destination Moon (1950), When Worlds Collide (1951) and Earth vs the Flying Saucers (1956).

The: IBM SSEC appeared in: Walk East on Beacon! (1952).

  12. 12:15 p.m. "Yolanda and the Thief" (1945)--Unique musical set in a South American Never-Never Land.  The sixteen minute dream ballet is one of the oddest I've seen.  The number "Coffee Time" is also notable.

I love very much the dance floor in this movie. I feel that it is appropriate that it a dance floor as it would be very difficult to walk on it in a straight line. :)
