It makes me very happy that you enjoyed the movie. I feel that all good movies work on many levels and I believe this movie in particular exemplifies this. The humour does have a wide range. It should come as no surprise to find subversive elements in any: Soviet/Russian movie.

I find it bone-chilling to think that: Mrs. Danvers implies that there was at one time a: Mr. Danvers. I feel real sympathy greatly for him even although he is imaginary adjunct to fictional character.

This is what came to my mind first also. I believe that: Mrs. Danvers in: Rebecca (1940) qualifies as: 'nutso.' Phyllis Dietrichson in: Double Indemnity (1944) and: Matty Walker in: Body Heat (1981) are definitely manipulative and possibly sociopathic. Nikita is most definitely a bad girl in first portion of: La Femme Nikita (1990). I feel that: Yuki Kashima in: Lady Snowblood (1973) can not truly be blamed for how she is because she was raised to be: psychopathic murderer.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 08, 2016 The Last of Mrs. Cheyney (1937)

The movie was made in: 1984 but I did not know of it until approx. a year ago when a friend sent it to me. I am a fan of: A. Zulawski and: A. Wajda and I will watch nearly any movie based on works by: F. M. Dostoyevsky. I believe that: TCM has shown Zulawski's: Possession (1981). I believe that it is safe to say that you will like: La femme publique (1984) if you liked: Possession (1981).

I must wonder if: Gaslight (1944) is appropriate to this question because she marries him with no knowledge of his true personality or plans. La femme publique (1984) is similar in some ways in that it is innocent woman becoming involved with man with unknown powers. I like this movie very much but I am very reserved in recommending it and would never suggest DVD of it be purchased with no prior viewing. I feel that this is beautiful and very powerful movie in many ways but I believe that: A. Zulawski is an acquired taste. The wife in: The Two Mrs. Carrolls (1947) does not know his true nature as is true also for wife in: Dial M for Murder (1954). Indiscreet (1958) comes to my mind also in that she does not know of important factor of his life when she becomes involved with him but the only danger is to her heart and to his head and so you may wish to not include it in this category.

Capuchin postulated in one: TCM Programming Challenge entry to have as Guest Programmer an animated character. He wrote parts of: Robert Osborne interview with her in: programming notes. I must ask: since: Kermit the Frog was a Guest Programmer then can an animated character be ruled out?

It is unfortunate that: TCM does not have studio facilities in or near: Hollywood. I would be very interested to see young actors explaining how specific movie influenced their decision to become an actor. It would not be expensive as the actors could be paid simple scale for: one day's work. It would give the young actors some exposure and benefit their standing with: SAG. It would not matter to me if I have not heard of that actor or if they have not to date had any significant role. It is their passion which I wish to see.

The first which comes to my mind is: Alibaba and 40 Thieves (1954). It has Alibaba finding the cave in which a gang of thieves keep their loot. He steals from it. Other things happen and then the thieves come for him. The thieves are killed and Alibaba goes on to live well on their accumulated wealth.

I am sad when I see payment is required for watching movie on: YouTube. It is nearly all times bootleg site or pure scam. A few are legitimate Pay-Per-View from legitimate studio but I rebel at thought of paying for single viewing on small screen and having my name and information in their database for all time. I am happy to say that some studios all viewing of their movies in full for free. Mosfilm and LenFilm have been quite generous in this manner. Many Mosfilm movies are available with: English subtitles by using: Closed Captioning and translation option.

I do hope that you watch and like this movie. It is a bit of fluff with minor pretensions but some scenes are very precious. I love: Robert Montgomery's encounter with apples and Mary Wickes is quite very wonderful.

It could be said that perpetrators profit by heist in: How to Steal a Million (1966). They steal a statue which has no value but purpose of the crime is to steal it before authorities learn that it has no value. One of the perpetrators in: Gambit (1966) will clearly profit quite handsomely by combination of crimes. They plot to steal priceless bust. They succeed. Spoiler Alert! Following paragraph contains plot information which is very important to ending: It is revealed then that they do not want it and had left it where owner could recover it safely. They had stolen it only to generate newspaper headlines concerning its theft because they planned to sell fakes to collectors who sought illicit works of art. One of those in the plot walks away before collecting but other one is shown preparing to deliver a fake to a buyer and had other fakes ready for sale.

I love that movie very much also! I am saddened that it is not more well-known.

SUNDAY, MAY 29, 2016 Imitation General (1958). I find this movie comfortable. It is not high art and it dithers in focus but I very much like: Glenn Ford as simple man beset by problems in situation many sizes larger than he can handle.

I fear some will think me boorish as I have posted of these movies often but I hope that none will feel it intrusion for me to repeat my recommendations: Two Comrades Were Serving (1968) is of two men who are opposites in all ways but become friends during war. One is very patriotic peasant. Other is intellectual artist who should not be in any war and should be on other side of this one. This movie goes beyond them and shows others who do what they must and how it affects them. The ending is very powerful and moving. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063615/ The Forty-first (1956) is of two people who are enemies who find that they have much in common. I should warn that this does not have: Hollywood ending. It ends the only way that such things can end in reality. I find: I Sell Anything (1934) an interesting movie of this type. Pat O'Brien is fast-talking salesman who uses shills. The main plot of the movie is that he becomes involved with others who are better at his game than he is. I know this movie has been on: TCM.
