BRONXGIRL'S MOTHER, HENRY FONDA'S HIRSUTENESS, ETC.
SansFin replied to Bronxgirl48's topic in Films and Filmmakers
We are having very cozy long weekend as both of us awoke Thursday with first pangs of severe colds. We have kept pace with each other in temperature, muscle aches and expression of bodily fluids. I do not tell of this for sympathy because we are both quite comfortable. We have been living on: orange juice, NyQuil, chicken soup and chewable Vitamin C tablets. I managed also to procure medications to ease muscles aches. It has been excuse for us to remain cuddled in bed watching excellent: Doctor Who marathon on: BBCAmerica. They have been airing most episodes from second season onward and even bad episodes are quite good in comparison with other choices. I am quite happy to see that arc of having: Clara as companion has come to an end. Peter Capaldi may be perfect as: The Doctor but storylines have been very weak because of: Clara. December 25 was never destined to be great celebration for us. Capuchin rarely observed it in grand fashion and it was never one of my holidays. Our first round of gift-giving was: St. Nicholas Day and our next is: New Year's Day. Gifts have been and will continue to be more personal than expensive as our finances remain reeling because of expenses of trip last year. The worst of this situation is that I am not able to work. Volume is very light because of holiday and weekend and they did very much count on me to carry most of it because it is not holiday for me. I was glad to do extra so that others might spend time with their families. I dare not try to do any work because medications and illness mean higher likelihood of mistakes. They have had to pull in three people to cover what I was meant to do. I find this particularly sad. I believe that I will now take long hot bath. Capuchin should be awake when I finish and he will give me a back rub. This is not ideal method of spending long weekend but it is not bad in all respects. I hope all others here are well and happy. -

Cottage to Let The Ghost Train Here Comes Mr. Jordan The Lady Eve Love Crazy Mr. & Mrs. Smith My Life With Caroline Topper Returns I do not place them in order of favoritism because any might be my favorite of them all at any moment depending on my mood and how recently I have watched others.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1910) with: Bebe Daniels and Hobart Bosworth. The Wizard of Oz (1925) with: Dorothy Dwan and Oliver Hardy. The Wizard of Oz (1939) with: Frank Morgan and Ray Bolger. My favorite is: 1925 version with Oliver Hardy. The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) with: Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) with: Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. I much prefer: 1968 version because of: Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. I liked very much the script for: 1999 version and Pierce Brosnan acquitted himself well in his role. Major flaws of the remake are casting of: Rene Russo who flounced her way through movie as if playing a cheap streetwalker and editing was very poor. Brilliant part of movie was casting: Faye Dunaway as therapist. I was surprised very much how well: Denis Leary carried his role. I did not expect to like him as actor but he was excellent.

I had quite different word in mind when I began but I typed first letter of it and then realized that word which I wished to use would appear only as asterisks. -
Your original post stated: "There ARE several movies in which Christmas plays SOME small part of the story, but really aren't considered Christmas movies." Irony of Fate (1976) falls into that category as it occurs during the appropriate season but: Christmas is not theme of the movie. Father Frost predates Christianity and Soviet. Primary gift-bringer of Orthodoxy is: St. Nicholas. Santa is melding of: Father Frost and: St. Nicholas.
-
New Year's Day is Soviet equivalent of Christmas with decorated trees and exchanging gifts. Father Frost of folklore is forerunner of: Santa Claus. It is a wonderful time and is sufficiently secular as to be acceptable to Soviet. The very best movie set at this time is: Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath (1976). It is so very popular that it airs each New Year's Eve and has had hundreds of millions of viewers. It is very charming story of an innocent mix-up causing naive young man in drunken stupor to be found in the bed of a delightful young woman unknown to him. A complication is that her fiance finds him there also. It is very touching comedy. It is available for viewing with subtitles on: YouTube within: Mosfilm Channel.

Such questions are covered in: SpyCraft 101. It is likely that Koreans doing spamming would know such things much better than most Americans. -
I am very sorry to have to say that I agree with you on this one point this one time. The Bible is very clear on this matter as it represents: Satan as: one-eyed snake.

You have mentioned many of my favorites! They are all quite wonderful. I can add only: Claude Rains in: Angel on My Shoulder (1946) and: Ray Milland in: Alias Nick Beal (1949).

There is frequently a movie quiz game in a forum which I visit. A user creates a set of eight stills from wide variety of movies and other users state how many they recognize. He presents mostly post-1980 movies and so we recognize a few only. It should be simple matter to create test which is stills from variety of years in variety of genres and person wishing to create new account must be able to identify at least a few of them. It would be impediment to new users signing up in haste but it could be made fun. I feel that it would at very least give us assurance that those who are spamming us have passing interest in classic movies as I know of no software which is for spamming use which has database of movie stills for reference. . -
HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM

I recommend this movie with reservations. It would be very delightful bit of fluff if it were not for attempts to force elements of melon-drama. Jane Fonda does chew the scenery a bit. I like Jason Robards very much but I felt he was a bit off in his whimsical exasperation when it was needed most. I would give this movie: 'A' for writing and general presentation but only strong 'C' overall as performances of leads were disappointing. -

I have been told that the newest software available for such purposes auto-detects rejections of post and automatically creates new user-account. Moderators would have to delete multitude of new users in order to delete spam rather than one or five accounts only. -
I am watching the two-episode finale of: Season Five of: Doctor Who. These episodes are entitled: The Pandorica Opens and: The Big Bang. It is so very heart-warming and daring and funny and full of pathos. The last episode of the season opens identically to opening of first episode of the season: Amelia is a little girl who is kneeling beside her bed with her hands clasped. She says: "Dear Santa, Thank you for the dolls and pencils and the fish. It’s Easter now, so I hope I didn’t wake you. But honest, it is an emergency. There’s a crack in my wall. Aunt Sharon says it’s just an ordinary crack but I know it’s not, ’cause at night there’s voices. So please, please could you send someone to fix it? Or a policeman...or... " The Doctor arrives to help and discovers that the crack is not in her wall. It is in everything. It is a crack in the universe. Grown-up Amelia and The Doctor have a season of adventures while the crack follows them through all of space and time. These two final episodes reveal the source of the crack and its importance. I feel that these episodes are writer Steven Moffat's greatest script. It is rich with the series' wry and unexpected humor. The Pandorica is revealed to be the ultimate prison. Amelia asks why it was built: The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster. Or a warrior. A nameless, terrible thing soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world. Amy: How did it end up in there? The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it. Dr. River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales. They always turn out to be him. It is difficult to write this as there are so few parts of it which I am willing to miss to type this. I am happy to say that those who do not have this on DVD can watch it next Saturday on: BBC America. I should perhaps have been watching: Possession (1981) as I recommended it in different thread but I instead recorded it because I am not in mood for such at this moment and I am in the mood for complex romantic silliness with universe-in-danger theme. Go figure.

It is my understanding that this is known defect with Sony VCRs. Technicians and engineers do not yet have solution to problem but they say that it is coming quickly.

TCM Underground for night of: Saturday, December 19, 2015: Possession (1981) Black Moon (1975) I will strongly recommend placing a bookmark in your sanity so that you will be able to find your place in normality after watching these movies. -
I trust that I have recounted my history so very many times that you are aware that I married in September of last year a person who is currently infrequent poster in this forum. I find it doubtful for several reasons that I will ever meet some other poster or identify myself to such a person if there is chance encounter.

I remember postings here by people who had been chosen to be: Fan Guest Programmer. At least one of them stated that they were asked to provide a list of several movies which they would like to present. Decision was then made on which to air based on availability. People at TCM have stated several times that not all movies are available to them for various reasons. I believe it reasonable to assume process for: 'star' Guest Programmer would be similar. They would surely be able to speak with much greater interest of movies which they truly like.

This is quite wonderful schedule! I like in particular: Star of the Month: Don Ameche. He was one of the most versatile debonair leading men oozing sex appeal. Your Saturday evening of: Charlies is excellent. It is an eclectic mix. Your: Dream Cast beginning with: Once Upon a Mattress (1972) is very clever! I do so hope that: TCM Programmers will be inspired by this schedule.
