"Picnic"?

The whole Jack Carson series yesterday was great. However in my opinion, I wouldn't want to air so many of these with the exact same cast back-to-back. It was confusing and detracting to the continuity. I mean, I know they're musicals, but still..

Nedlato, it has to be his real name. I can't imagine inventing such a cocky one.

Well, anyone care to start a new round while pth40a is gone??
-
Oh! Well then mine wasn't till the early '90s, when our Blockbuster store (in Florissant, MO, by the way!) began stocking an exclusive shelf of classic films. My mom went with me and turned me on to "Laura" and "Double Indemnity" as my first classic rentals - I was hooked! I think I rented out the entire aisle over the course of a year!

Superman?

Yeah we did all the classic-textbook-family trips to the movies too, but the first time going with a couple girls my age (the "drop-off"!) was to see Jaws, when I was about 10. I loved it so much, I went home and embroidered JAWS on the front of a T-shirt - same red color and same exact lettering font as the movie poster. It was choice, man.

I don't remember a trial in Elizabeth & Essex. Unless you count the Queen's directives (conviction and sentencing).

Antar, I don't think anyone cares if we use IMDb. Heck you have to know a little something just to make the correct search! *S* There's several times I can name the stars, quote dialog verbatum, but still can't think of the dam title.

I'm not sure why either, but big Hollywood producers of days gone by seemed to think (incorrectly IMO) that American audiences always wanted happy endings. Europeans could take a tragic ending and still consider it a great film, but we could not?? I'm reminded of "Anna Karenina" as a classic example: The American-distributed final scene: they lived happily ever after. The European finale: Garbo's suicidal step onto the train tracks.

Good to know! Thank YOU! *S*

If You Were Alone on a Desert Island. . .

Mine WAS cheating - a hodgepodge, and not even a movie to boot! (Sorry, I just love those specials with the old TV commercials and always think, when I see them on, "I never want this to end!") Okay, if I had to pick a movie, I too would pick "Casablanca" - I'd wanna see people even MORE depressed than me. -
I too wish I could see more silents, but I usually work nights on weekends. I caught three Sunday nights on TCM this year, and every single one had "The Unknown" with Joan Crawford and Lon Chaney. It was cool to see Joan in a silent, overacting("The HANDS!! Those HANDS!!"), but still an enjoyable albeit bizarre story!

Yeah I'm probably underqualified. Carry on.

I think lolite's on the right track with Poe... "The Tomb of Ligieia"?

I believe it's Loliteblue's turn.

Knock on wood, I haven't had any of those problems - only the frustration of typing responses and realizing I haven't logged in yet. I do know with my MSIE that I have to go in regularly to delete my cache (temporary) files. If you don't know how to do it, call your ISP Support or e-mail me. Otherwise it gets so bogged down that it's soooo slooooow!

I for one will never assume anyone is a winner again until it's announced! I would have bet $100 you had "Joe Smith, American"!
-
You're right Mongo, it WAS Loretta Young now that you mention it! Thank you so much!

I caught bits and pieces of a movie a long time ago that I can't remember any actors names. It involved a man who was either slowly dying or his wife was trying to kill him (or possibly he was just a paranoid neurotic?) but his wife would do his cooking, cleaning, etc. It involved a letter the man had written and sent his wife to mail, and her efforts to retrieve it from the post office. Does anyone recall the title? Thank you.
